On the first Thursday of very month, the Art Gallery of Ontario puts on what is one of the coolest parties in the city. Period. AGO’s First Thursdays are insane collaborations of art, artists, art lovers, live music, food, drinks and a chance to make art all in one night. The theme of the evening tends to revolve around a show currently in the gallery, with August’s coming from Kim Adam’s crazy cool miniature sculptures exhibit, with an ambiance created by a medley of live performances and DJs stationed throughout the space. We had a chance to check out the queer-themed First Thursday in June, and here are the reasons we can’t wait to go back…
1. You get to roam around the empty gallery… with a drink in your hand. Is there a better way to enjoy art? The answer is “Non!” D’uh.
2. You get to make art based on the night’s theme and sketch nudes. At $15 a ticket, that’s probably the least we’ve paid to see naked people.
3. A chance to be the only people who see art that nobody else has seen in forever with the Out of the Vault (exclusively for First Thursdays). Hipster cred, yo.
4. See and interact with artists, performers and DJs that will blow your mind and are at the height of their game. More hipster cred… Double yo.
