For some, being 69 means being surrounded by cats and slumped in a comfy armchair watching Days of Our Lives, anxiously awaiting that casserole in the oven.
But if you’re Cher, being 69 means becoming the new face of Marc Jacobs.
That’s right. This icon isn’t about to slow down anytime soon as she becomes one of Marc Jacob’s muses for his upcoming fall collection. And it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise: these two amigos went arm in arm to this year’s Met Gala. Jacobs even confessed he was a little nervous, despite having taken a wide variety of A-listers to the gala over the years. He walked to pick her up at the Four Seasons like a jittery boy getting ready for prom.
As someone who grew up on Sonny and Cher, he admitted, “Other boys were out fascinated by other things. I was like, no, I’d much rather see what Cher’s wearing this week.” The pair had never achieved BFF status – they’d barely had more than a few casual run-ins over the years – but it’s clear that Cher left a lasting impression on the designer. In 2013, Marc Jacobs dedicated his final collection for Louis Vuitton to a list of inspiring women, including Cher.
The timeless performer has also seen her share of Met Galas. The most notable appearance was in 1974 when she wore a feathered, almost entirely transparent gown by Mr. Mackie, which bears an uncanny resemblance to none other than Kim K’s nude illusion at this year’s 2015 gala.
If we could turn back time, we’d take Cher over Kim K any day.
