Organic is a pretty big buzz word right now. Name it somewhere and you can likely find an organic version of whatever ready for purchase. While this phenomenon is particularly prevalent in the culinary sector, it’s worth remembering that skin is your biggest organ. Although you probably already know this, putting good things on your skin is as important as putting good (and delicious and nutritious) things in your stomach.
Now that my health sermon is over, let’s focus on the important stuff. They say the best way to go organic for skin it is to do it yourself. Now I don’t know who ‘they’ are, but for all intents and purposes (and budgets) I agree.
Some of the best skincare remedies I’ve encountered have come about naturally, whether on recommendations from friends or through experimentation. I’ve found effective skincare products are likely available in the produce aisle (or farmers market during the summer). Here are two of my favourite natural skincare concoctions…
3-Ingredient Face Mask
– Half an avocado
– One tablespoon of honey
– One tablespoon of plain yogurt
Mash the avocado in a bowl, then add honey and yogurt until it is a paste-like consistency that is vaguely reminiscent of a smooth guacamole. Massage over skin and leave to set for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Both the avocado and honey are moisturizing, while the yogurt gets rid of dead skin and helps with breakouts.
Green Tea Rinse
This process is so simple it doesn’t even require an ingredient list. Steep some green tea and leave it to cool. Store in a container and use as a toner when required. It’s quite possibly the easiest thing in the world aside from binge-watching Netflix.
