Chuck Hughes is one of those guys that makes all the ladies weak at the knees, all the guys a little intimidated and both of these wanting to steal the recipe to his latest creation on his show “Chuck’s Day Off”. I have been watching my fellow Montrealer on the Food Network since my arrival in Toronto – and I’ve tried to recreate his delicacies at home. Sometimes I’m successful, and sometimes I need to try again… Nonetheless each time I learn and enrich my creative senses. I just love his food – it’s innovative comfort food that always tastes amazing.
When I discovered Chuck would be hosting “Chuck’s Night Off” at Brant House on opening night of TIFF, I had to make sure one of our VTV gals was there to get an interview. Marie Nicola, of Nat & Marie, was the lucky lady chosen to spend some time chatting with the charming chef (though I couldn’t help but tag along…) just before he served some lucky Torontonians a fabulous 3-course meal including dishes featured on his television show. Sadly we didn’t get to indulge as we had 2 more TIFF parties to get to… (watch the rest of our night’s TIFF adventures here: Glitz & Glamour and Overdrive at The Drake) but before he gets to his guests, Marie chats him up and even gets inked by him! Yes, you heard me – INKED.
Should you be one of the very rare people who has never heard of Chuck Hughes, he is the host of the Food Network’s “Chuck’s Day Off” and the newly aired “Chuck’s Week Off”. He owns two famous restaurants in Montreal – Garde Manger and Le Bremner – both of which are impossible to get in without reservations made at least one month in advance. He is truly lovely, inspiring and a person whom I find very admirable. While his success is definitely well deserved, his charm and modesty is what I found most endearing.
