Ever wished there was an easier way to sweet-talk the doorman into letting you and your friends ahead of the massive line… especially in the sub-zero climate of Canadian winters? Vv Magazine takes a close look at the latest nightlife app to take Toronto by storm: Eve Tab.
There’s probably nothing worse than going to a nightclub and having to deal with a rude bouncer who tells you to go stand at the back of the line. Add -20 degree weather and your night just got worse. Truth be told, at a certain age, this would not affect you because chances are you won’t stand in line and will instead go somewhere less cool to actually enjoy your night out and not spend it freezing your ass off. But alas, if you are not that person, there is a new app on the market that takes these kinds of problems away and allows you to look like the king sh*t of your friends.
Eve Tab is a nightlife app that not only gets you ahead of the line, it also waives the entrance fee for you and your friends, allowing you to pre-pay your bar bill so that you don’t have to worry about waiting for drinks or book bottle service and overall look pretty cool in front of your friends. Launched in early September, Eve Tab is currently only available in Toronto but has managed to pull in over 6,000 users — 600 of which are active on a weekly basis.
“How many times have you forgotten your credit card behind the bar? Eve Tab allows a person to pre-pay so they don’t need to bring a wallet to the club while also making the overall evening hassle and wait free”
Have we perked your interest? Curious about how it works? It is actually quite simple: once you’ve downloaded the app, available for both iPhone and Android, sign up and instantly you will see a map of the cool venues that work with Eve Tab. Select your location of choice and then instantly you can set up your mobile bar tab, which will automatically guarantee a night free of line ups and bar waits just by a flash off your phone. The technology behind Eve Tab allows the bartender to see who is paying with the app through simple Bluetooth technology, allowing guests to get VIP service.
Sameer Pirani, the creator of Eve Tab, has been in the nightlife business for over a decade and is quite convinced that this is the future of clubbing. “How many times have you forgotten your credit card behind the bar? Eve Tab allows a person to pre-pay so they don’t need to bring a wallet to the club while also making the overall evening hassle and wait free.” Once signed up for an evening out with Eve, the user’s profile picture appears on the Eve iPads behind the bar so the bartenders can see that the person ordering drinks is correct. The user also has the ability to flash their phone to bartenders and bouncers, which indicates that they have pre-paid their night out.
So far, participating nightclubs include Bloke & 4th, EFS, Gilt and many more. One may wonder why a nightclub would agree to this given that it seems, from an outside perspective, that they would be losing money. But the reality is that pre-paid tabs are a better bet than gambling on people spending the same amount in person at the bar. The minimum spend-to-use Eve Tab is $50.00 per person and, if the total is not spent, the user loses it and the bar keeps it. Pretty sweet deal if this happens a few times a night because, according to Pirani, most users will load their cards up to $250.00.
In this day and age where apps are launching by the hundreds on a daily basis, one does wonder if these mobile tools will work. It’s no secret that being the first to market in a city like Toronto isn’t a bad start. Pirani hopes to be part of the “Tech Starts” incubator program held in NYC in the spring, and then to launch Eve Tab in more cities in the USA. Asked if any other city in Canada will offer the Eve app, he says that moving forward, they will be focusing on nightlife-heavy cities like NYC and Las Vegas. Oh well, I guess that just gives us Canadians a reason to hit up Vegas for the weekend!
