Are you heading off to school soon with a new Mac? If so, you’re in good company. 71% of college students prefer a Mac to a PC.

If you’re new to the Mac camp, you might be curious about exactly what to do with it. Sure, it’s sleek, stylish, and fast, but what else can it do?

If you’re a student looking to make the best use from your new Mac laptop, read on to learn the best Mac apps for students. These amazing tools can increase productivity, improve your essays, and can streamline collaborations and group projects.

1. Evernote

Evernote is one of the best apps for note-taking. It works on both your Mac and smartphone and is great for creating to-do lists, organizing tasks, taking notes, or saving ideas to jot down key points at conferences or in a lecture.

It can often be more convenient to take notes digitally rather than pen and paper, so using Evernote can save a lot of time, especially for quick typists.

2. Grammarly

Poor grammar can not only lead to low grades, but it can also negatively impact your future career prospects, as you may be seen as having poor attention to detail.

Make sure all your essays and school projects are worthy of an ‘A+.’ by running them through the Grammarly app before submitting them. Grammarly, available in either a free or premium version, does an incredible job of checking your essays for grammar, syntax, improper capitalization, and style errors.

Any red flags can be quickly corrected- a very helpful app since it can be easy to miss things when proofreading your own work.

3. TaskPaper

TaskPaper is an intuitive, straightforward, and simple note-taking app. Sometimes, when choosing Mac apps, you just need something functional and basic to get the job done, such as TaskPaper.

Write in plain, easy to read text, noting all of your important lists, notes, or to-do lists. Once you’re done with the text, the app gives you the satisfaction of crossing them out once complete.

4. Keynote

Keynote is Apple’s version of PowerPoint. Nearly all students will need to deliver presentations, create visuals, and collaborate on group assignments, so use your Mac to create stunning, detailed displays that will take your work to the next level.

Start with one of their many pre-made themes, or create your own design, and teams can edit presentations simultaneously from their own computer. You can also use Keynote to edit and record audio clips, creating engaging and informative presentations.

5. OmniFocus

For those who do a lot of project work, OmniFocus might be for you. This app is helpful for project management, allowing users to assign tasks in sequential order, manage workloads, and group various projects together.

It’s one of the top task management apps, and it’s equally useful for both professionals and students.

6. Slack

A fantastic free app for group work is Slack. With Slack, you can create different channels and add members to the channel, creating easy to use messaging and group chats. These work well when members or students are working remotely and need to stay in quick communication as they’re working.

If you’re frequently working in groups, you should also check out screen sharing apps for Mac. They make it easy to share presentations, notes, and documents to the whole team.

7. iStudiez Pro

Consider iStudiez Pro for your virtual planner. This clever app works well to manage all aspects of your study schedule. It can show your daily schedule of classes and study times, keep track of assignment due dates, and the colorful block scheduling design makes it easy to see what you need to focus on.

It also sends push notifications to your phone, so there’s no excuse to be late for a class or meeting.

8. Dropbox

Dropbox has become the preferred way for many to send large documents. It’s especially useful for sending bulky items, such as photos, or even class reading materials. It also offers cloud-based personal or group storage, and you can organize your files as needed.

Create a free Dropbox account to quickly and easily send images, photos, assignments, or documents to fellow classmates, family, or teachers. Also, use it to back up your work and files to make sure nothing important is lost, should anything happen to your Mac.

9. Dr. Cleaner

If your Mac is running slowly, it can seriously slow down your productivity. Slow load times, lags in downloads, or other problems caused by low memory space or too many programs running are the last thing a busy student needs.

With Dr. Cleaner, you can easily clean up your Mac by deleting unwanted files. It helps you sort through your trash bin, as well as large files, letting you see what they contain so you can decide if they’re worth keeping.

It’s an important app for your Mac to make sure it’s performing at its best.

10. Microsoft Office 365

If you’re using your Mac for Microsoft programs, such as Outlook or Microsoft teams, it can be a bit fiddly to get working on an Apple. Simplify this with Microsoft Office 365, allowing you to smoothly access and use all of the great features of 365.

This includes the Office suite of PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, and OneNote. Use it to help your Mac make seamless transitions between PC and Mac applications.

Which of the Best Mac Apps for Students Work Best for You?

Now that you’re aware of the best Mac apps for students, which do you think would work best for you? Download some and try them out- they are sure to make student life a lot less stressful by helping you organize and manage your work. They also are great for teamwork and group projects, and they can help you make the most of your Mac.
