Few things bring us more joy than seeing the words “free” and “event” in the same sentence. Add “John Legend” into the mix and it’s like music to our ears (John Legend’s sweet, sweet voice to be specific).
John Legend will be hitting up the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema in Toronto on September 13th to host a free night at the movies with Mark Duplass from the Duplass brothers duo, also alongside TIFF Vanguard programmer Colin Geddes.
The event will highlight three AXE Collective aspiring filmmakers who have produced films all within the Vanguard category (described as dark and edgy). As part of the AXE program, each filmmaker had the lucky chance of being mentored by Legend and Duplass and the event will spotlight what’s now and next in filmmaking.
But like all things that are free, we suggest you get there early as admission is on a first-come-first-serve basis. And although Legend won’t actually be singing, the night will also feature a DJ, popcorn, hors d’oeuvres, complimentary cocktails, and dessert.
No word yet on whether Chrissy Teigen or daughter Luna will be in tow but we have our fingers crossed.
The AXE Collective is part of the “Find Your Magic” campaign that not only pushes aspiring filmmakers, but also entrepreneurs in the creative field, to pursue the thing that makes them unique.
