Toronto’s Award Show Season Not-So VIP Jetsetter
Juice factor: 9/10
Truth be told, not many of we Canadians who work in the media get invited to cover the red carpets and celebrity-filled awards shows that heat up Hollywood this time of year. TIFF is kind of like of consolation prize. That said, a few heavy hitters hit the big A-list events outside of hometurf, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that those Canucks you see live-tweeting awards shows from sunny California are part of an elite group who have invites from the powers that be in LaLaLand. In fact, we know of one particular media darling who is so obsessed with seeming important that she shells out thousands of dollars to attend her favourite star-studded awards shows and always has the photo library to show for herself. After all, regular civilians can still buy tickets, sometimes at auction, to some of Hollywood’s most prestigious events, and what this media personality lacks in notoriety and influence she makes up for in cold hard cash.
Are Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom dating?
Juice Factor: 8/10
It’s definitely been a while since Katy Perry has surfaced, but the pop singer came back in the spotlight this past weekend, emerging on the red carpet of Golden Globes, and continuing the party after the ceremony by hitting the Weinstein Company and Netflix Golden Globe after-party in Beverly Hills. If coming back into the limelight in the name of TV and cinema seemed like a strange move for the pop starlet, perhaps the trophy she was hoping to take home was actor Orlando Bloom. The California girl was spotted in body-contact flirtations with British Lord of the Rings star. Although both stars are notorious for being in long-term relationships, the two found themselves equally as single on Sunday night.
Blind Item: New bigwig editor a surprise
Juice factor: 8/10
Well, it’s refreshing to see an addition to a magazine masthead for a change as opposed to the usual shrinking list of staff content creators we’re so used to seeing in the digital era. That said, this major magazine’s freshest hire isn’t exactly going to impress the skilled team of print aficionados with a glowing resume of similar past experience. That’s the problem–this is clearly a social media hire meant to up the publication’s traffic online. Could it work? Maybe. But given the high rank attached to the new editor’s position, we’re guessing things are only going to go from eye roll to all hell breaking lose. This is great news, however, for anyone who adores Instagram.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt adopting more kids?
Juice Factor: 7/10
Ricky Gervais may have taken a jab about the ever-expanding Jolie-Pitt clan while hosting the Golden Globes, but it turns out his joke may have been more of a premonition. The couple are said to have adopted a Cambodian baby boy from the slums of Siem Reap, where Angelina is directing her new film, First They Killed My Father. Maybe seven kids will be a charm for the Brangelina Bunch.
Blind Item: “My weight gain makes me relatable”
Juice factor: 8/10
If most media types seem like unbearable egomaniacs with drug problems to match, we swear there’s at least a good chunk of us who aren’t perpetually awful. But we guess that’s all relative depending on what your regular scene is, and ours of course is full of self-involved freak shows who make us feel a little bit better about ourselves in comparison. One particularly out over-the-top some-time TV personality has been spending a lot of time on the party circuit gushing over her noticeable weight gain in recent history, insisting that “my weight gain makes me relatable. I was too pretty before.” Seriously. People say things like that. Hey, if you’re already failing miserably at your New Year’s resolution to hit the gym, perhaps you should just try a new perspective.
