Never have chefs been as popular as they are today. It seems that every other reality show has to do with the happenings in the kitchen. The second a show associates itself with chefs, it seems guaranteed to skyrocket. And it’s no wonder why. They say the way to the heart is through the stomach, and chefs proffer a sense of mystery since they are behind the scenes while we’re busy gossiping and raising flutes with our friends, all the while moaning over their decadent dishes.
So what do you do if you happen to fall for a gent who knows his way around a kitchen? Here are the need-to-knows on how to get his attention, keep it, and turn it into something more.
Get His Attention
Show up at the restaurant he works at and show interest. After the mains, pop into the kitchen – or ask your server if he can send the chef to your table – and thank the chef for the meal. Be flirty. This will ensure he’ll remember you next time. Just make sure when you’re dropping compliments it’s nothing too over-the-top or obnoxious. Being genuine and authentic will go further than yet another woman fan-girling over his work.
Show Him What A Catch You Are
Instead of lurking at a table or the bar alone, hoping to get a glimpse of him when he’s done his shift in the kitchen, come in with a couple of your friends. Go to the restaurant for the last seating and stay late drinking and chatting with your faves. When the chef is done, invite him to come join you and the girls for a drink. By staying late you can ensure that all his work is out of the way and he can join, ease free.
How To Make It Work
Short of ditching your friends to leave with him, keep him hanging. Give him your number. Get his and plan a rendezvous, sans besties. Just be sure when suggesting dates that you plan around weekends and special events, since chefs are typically working them. Chances are he works late nights and long hours, but by working around them and not complaining, he’ll be not only more willing to commit to plans, but wanting to see you more thanks to the ease and lack of stress.
Accept His Personal Time (And Space)
Chefs have very little personal time, and the time that they do have they’ll want some of that for themselves. Don’t take this personally. It has nothing to do with you and the second you start questioning him or yourself about it, the more drama you’ll be causing for no reason. An independent woman who has her own life outside of this relationship is perfect for a chef.
Cook For Him
Chefs love eating home cooking they didn’t have to prepare on their own, and they like eating casual, no-nonsense cooking (as they spend too much of their time fussing over plates). If you can cook him something simple with confidence, you’ll have him eating out of the palm of your hands. Pun intended.
