5 Kitchen Tools You Never Knew You Needed

I love making soups at home and this immersion blender is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Offering a touch speed control button, so that you can blend (even at low speeds) – it’s ideal for small or large batch blending or pureeing. The other cool part about this tool? It comes with an adjustable shaft of 10.6” or 8.5″ for optimal blending and minimal splashing.

PC Enameled Cast Iron Grill Pan

We all know how incredible cast iron cookware is – it retains heat which means that it stays hotter and cooks foods more efficiently. But sometimes a cast iron pan can be rather costly, so this is why coming across these PC enameled cast iron grill pans in three different colours is a sure-fire win. It’s quality cookware for the budget-minded foodie.

This one is absolutely essential and I can almost guarantee you do not have it in your home: a thermometer for meats! Rather than Googling and fumbling around trying to figure out if your meat is actually ready or not, try this LCD instant-read digital thermometer. With guides printed onto the thermometer, it takes the guess work out of what you’re trying to do and saves you from any food-borne illnesses.

2-pack Forged Knife Set
Price: $49.99

Knives are going to be an extension of your hand and also, the most important tool in the kitchen. I was actually very impressed with the craftsmanship of the knife set by President’s Choice whose knives were made by bladesmiths in Portugal. Using a fully forged piece of German steel, this knife can stand toe to toe with some of the imported knives in the city.

PC 2-pack Baking Sheets
Price: $29.99

Okay, so we’ve all been there – your baking sheets have buckled and you’ve thought to yourself: why, why is this happening! Well, for starters: it may be time to buy new pans but it also has a lot to do with the design of the pans. This is why when President’s Choice started designing their baking sheet they put a lot of thought into it. The pans use a QUANTUM®2 advanced ceramic reinforced non-stick coating and are 1mm thick. Sound dreamy? Well, you might want to try them out on the nacho recipe you can find below!

No-Cook Summer Nachos with Sriracha Sour Cream

Who says nachos need to be smothered in cheese? Ready-to-eat cocktail shrimp, fruity mango salsa, and spicy sour cream add loads of fresh flavour to these summery nachos. The best part: You don’t even have to heat up your oven. Sprinkle with fresh cilantro, if you like.

Serves: 8
Prep time: 15 minutes
Ready in: 15 minutes
Difficulty Level: Easy

Per serving: 220 calories, fat 13 g (3 g of which is saturated), sodium 240 mg, carbohydrate 19 g, fibre 3 g, sugars 4 g, protein 6 g

INGREDIENTS

1 pkg (340 g) PC® Mango Salsa, drained
2 cups (500 mL) frozen PC® Avocado Chunks, thawed
1-½ cups (375 mL) frozen PC® Cooked Peeled Wild Atlantic Cold Water Shrimp (about 100 g), thawed
2 tbsp (25 mL) fresh lime juice
Pinch (0.5 mL) salt
2/3 cup (150 mL) sour cream
2 tsp (10 mL) Sriracha hot sauce
8 cups (2 L)  PC® Kettle Style Blue Corn Tortilla Chips Seasoned With Sea Salt (about one 368 g bag)
1 cup (250 mL) PC® Cherry Tomatoes, halved

DIRECTIONS

Stir together salsa, avocado, shrimp, lime juice and salt in large bowl. Set aside.
Stir together sour cream and Sriracha in a small bowl. Set aside.
Spread tortilla chips on a large serving platter or rimmed baking sheet. Top with salsa mixture and tomatoes. Drizzle with sour cream mixture. Serve immediately.

TIP: Transfer the sour cream mixture to a resealable plastic bag and snip off one corner for easy, mess-free drizzling.
