Have you ever wondered what your zodiac sign says about you? If so, you’re not alone. Humans have looked to the stars for answers, signs, and predictions since as early as 330 BC. Those interested folks weren’t the only ones looking up — farmers used the skies as a calendar. Travelers used it as a compass.
But for this article, we’re looking up for some mystical direction.
So let’s dive in! We’ve separated the signs into four categories, or elements — Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Keep reading for all the answers to your curiosities.
Fire Signs
The Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Those in this zodiac tend to be extroverts with prominent personalities and lots of energy. Compatible zodiac signs would level out their rambunctiousness in a refreshing way.
Aries (Mar. 21 – Apr. 19)
Represented with a symbol like the Ram, it’s no wonder that Aries are hard-headed, bold, and not afraid of a challenge.
Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)
Leos roar like their lion symbols. They can be egotistical if they let their pride get to them. They are loud, taking up a lot of space in the room.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)
Sagittarius’ symbol is the archer. An archer is an excellent example of a Sag’s precision, integrity, and steadfastness.
Water Signs
The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Water signs tend to be emotional, sensitive, and compassionate. Compatible zodiac signs are those with a bold, warming personality.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Cancer signs, like their crab representative, are adaptable. Whether in the roaring ocean or the calm beach, they acclimate to a room. They are intuitive and emotional beings.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)
You might think a sign as strong and sharp as a Scorpio would be a fire sign, but Scorpios are deep, emotionally-charged beings that lead their lives with heart.
Pisces (Feb. 19 – Mar. 20)
Pisces signs are a mix of grounded and head-in-the-clouds. Represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions, this is a perfect example of the yin and yang of a Pisces.
Air Signs
The Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. Those in this zodiac tend to be practical yet philosophical. Compatible zodiac signs are those that are also realistic and grounded.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Gemini, represented as twins, is a perfect example of the double lives a Gemini wants to lead. They want to do it all!
Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)
Libras are all about balance, which may be why their symbol — scales — is so appropriate (and also the only inanimate symbol on the zodiac).
Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)
Aquarius signs are the humanitarians of the bunch. Their symbol, called a glyph, depicts that of a Water Bearer. This is an example of their obsession with balance and harmony.
Earth Signs
The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. Earth signs tend to be down-to-Earth (get it!?), pragmatic, and grounded. Compatible zodiac signs are fellow humanitarians and relaxed personalities.
Taurus (Apr. 20 – May 20)
Represented by the bull, you may think Taurus signs are tough. And they are — but they’re also big fans of lounging and relaxing, like a bull in a field of grass!
Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)
Virgos, represented by the goddess of agriculture, are practical like their historical representation. Hard-working, logical, and perfectionist are all traits that describe Virgos.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)
Capricorns, represented by a sea goat (yes, really), are — like a goat and a fish — both emotional and fluid and strong and reliable.
