Whether you’re looking for something fancy or something a little more low-key (like sweatpants and sunglasses to hide your hangover low-key), we’ve got a brunch spot for you to enjoy on New Year’s Day.
Brunch on New Year’s Day is almost as hallowed a tradition as the sloppy drunkfest the night before. It allows for one to restore their electrolytes, get some coffee in their system, piece together what happened, and avoid having to cook at home. Sounds pretty great to us.
To help you keep things simple, here are some of our favorite brunch places that’ll be serving up some relief on New Year’s Day.
401 Bay St.
If you’re not too hungover, we suggest filling your tummy with Bannock’s brunch (think Croissant French Toast, Fried Bologna & Eggs, and Brunch Poutine), going for an ice skate at Nathan Phillips Square or shopping at CF Eaton Cente which is open from noon to 5:00 pm.
1132 Dundas St. West
This 24-hour diner is sure to be packed on New Year’s Day, so prepare to head their early (if you can muster it) or wait. Your hangover will be cured with classic eggs and toast, pancakes, however-you-like-it eggs benny, and $5 caesars. Oh, and if you need an extra few hours of sleep, brunch is served all day long.
1221 Bay St.
If you didn’t get a chance to visit the Yorkville plant-based restaurant in 2016, head there on January 1st! From 10:30 am to 3:30 pm, they’ll be serving up dishes like banana pancakes, avocado toast, fried kimchi dumplings and more off their a la carte menu.
Colette Grand Cafe
550 Wellington St. West
Head to Colette for their decadent buffet brunch which features fresh seafood, an omelette station, mouth-watering desserts and more. There are two seatings: 10:00 am and 2:30 pm and the buffet is $75 per person. We suggest making online reservations for this spot!
60 Yorkville Ave.
Kick-off the New Year at Cafe Boulud, where they are serving a prix fixe menu for brunch. Choose from a 2-course ($55/person) or 3-course menu ($65/person) which include delicious dishes like steak tartare, Canadian oysters, lemon ricotta pancakes, rotisserie chicken and waffles, and duck confit hash. See the full menu here.
Mildred’s Temple Kitchen
85 Hanna Ave.
Cure your hangover with a stack of the yummiest blueberry pancakes you’ve ever tasted or one of Mildred’s other classic brunch dishes. We suspect Mildred’s will be extra packed on New Year’s Day, so get there early or be prepared to wait (sometimes even up to 1.5 hours). Mildred’s will be open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
323 Spadina Ave.
Round up the gang and gather for some all-day dim sum at Rol San. Get over your hangover blues and recap your wild New Year’s Eve night over siu mai, har gow, steamed buns, and some yummy, greasy deep fried chicken wings and calamari. It’s just what the doctor ordered!
Fran’s + Upper Deck
20 College St.
With 3 levels of seating in total, plus two other locations in central locations, you’re guaranteed to score a seat with little to (cross your fingers) no wait time on New Year’s Day. Soak up all that extra alcohol in your stomach with a breakfast menu that won’t disappoint. While Fran’s is open 24/7 and serves breakfast all day, Upper Deck is only open for brunch from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
304 Richmond St. West
Feel like a low-key but tasty brunch? Thoroughbred, famous for their unique brunch lovingly referred to as “Low Tea”, will be serving up yummy brunch for super affordable prices between 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Expect the bubbly to be flowing.
617 King St. West and 1112 Queen St. West
