A couple of months ago I was invited to preview a new skincare line called Optimera by Nerium International. Unfortunately I was out of town and therefore sent Azra from our office. Once back in the office, she gave me the product they had given her and said “this is more for you than for me.” Many days she hears me complaining about wrinkles, bags, and, most recently, rosacea, a chronic condition characterized by facial erythema (redness). Poor Azra…
That day she told me the before and after pictures she had seen at the preview were amazing and that I should try it. So I did.
I started following the directions, which was to use four pumps of the night cream before bed and then four pumps of the day cream in the morning. Both creams are best used on a clean and misty face. The night cream has a terribly odd texture and sometimes required me to rub the cream in for 3 to 4 minutes before it blended into my skin. It felt grainy and chalky. The day cream was super hydrating and I actually loved the texture. That said, I had to apply my regular day cream overtop as this one has no SPF and, God knows, every 40-year-old needs to be wearing some SPF on their face!
I followed this process for one month because, from what Azra told me after the preview, the best results would show after one month of use. Guess what? My skin is actually less red – but mostly, less spotty. I used to get very veiny red spots on my cheeks. I still see the redness but it’s much lighter and the texture of my skin is much smoother.
I am actually pretty impressed because about one week before I got these products I had consulted with a medical spa to find out how to start fixing this rosacea issue. Growing up I remember my father always having a red face – it’s a hereditary thing so I wanted to try to nix it before it got any worse. The cost to do it medically? Over $3,000. Oy!
So when Azra gave me these products to try, I figured, What the hell? And I am pleased! Very pleased! I am hoping to continue to see if I can get rid of it completely or at least slow it down so I don’t need medical attention right away.
Optimera is available to customers in Ontario and British Columbia at MyNerium.com for $188 for both the Night Cream and the Day Cream. The Night Cream can also be purchased separately for $125.
