Alistair Kyte is living proof that journalists do, in fact, make amazing PR people. Kyte, who’s currently a Senior Consultant at LexPR, was a magazine writer and editor, specializing in food and hospitality no less, for seven years before making the jump into the not so distant world of public relations. It definitely explains why we like to read his press releases with our morning coffee. We caught up with the rock star publicist to find out more about his interesting career and what he gets up to in his free time in Toronto.
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
I love to make people laugh… especially strangers. I can’t help making jokes around cashiers, flight attendants, policemen. I should probably stop that. It’s like I have comedic Tourette’s. I work in PR but was a writer/editor previously.
Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
…it’s so diverse. I’ve traveled a bit and Toronto feels as free as a city can be. Be yourself… That should be the city motto.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
Music is essential in good or bad times. I’m also blessed to have a family that gets along and some great friends. And good food and wine make everything better.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
Marben is a client, so you’ll find me there a lot, and lucky for me, because it’s great. Love the food, vibe and people who work there. Chef Rob Bragagnolo has a housemade ravioli stuffed with crab and scallops that I am currently addicted to. Another spot I love is Hiro for sushi. It doesn’t get a lot of hype but it’s amazing. Hiro is always standing there, all business; he makes beautiful plates.
What’s your favourite drink/cocktail and where do you go to get it?
I like the classics so a well-made gin and tonic is my go-to drink. Hitch in Leslieville makes them perfectly.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date with all your city-trotting?
I’m on Twitter and Instagram. I don’t post a ton but I love them both. Twitter is a great way to keep on top of what’s happening in your city and whatever else interests you.
