When it comes to the best beauty advice, you should always trust a flight attendant. They know all the secrets to combating dry skin, sleep deprivation and looking beautiful no matter what time zone they happen to find themselves in. That’s why we love beauty blogger Joyce Wong, the founder of SparklyPlayground.com. Wong divides her time between working as a flight attendant and blogging about all things beauty. We caught up with the airborne beauty blogger to find out what’s she’s currently obsessed with and her go-to international destinations for spa services.
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
I’m Joyce! [*waves hi*] I’m optimistic about life and everything around me! I work really hard and therefore am very proud of my achievements inside and outside of blogging. I work as a flight attendant and, during my spare time, I blog on SparklyPlayground.com and do videos about beauty products, tips and tricks, DIY crafts, fashion style and just daily life, which includes a lot of food and events. I’m a ton of fun in a little package and grateful that I have an amazing bunch of friends to do fun things with!
How did you get interested in the world of beauty?
I think every girl probably worked their fingers into their mom’s, sister’s or cousin’s make up stash. Mine was no different, except I broke almost all of my mom’s lipsticks when I was 2!
What’s your beauty must-have?
Moisturizers and sun protection. I work in a metal tube (AKA an aircraft), so I’m constantly exposed to the sun and it’s extremely dry in there!
What beauty/style trends are you excited for this year?
Although the Pantone Colour of the Year is emerald, I’m actually very excited that pink is a huge beauty trend this year because it’s my favourite colour! Pink is found all over on the eyes, lashes, lips, cheeks as seen in Donna Karan, Bottega Veneta, Marni and Chanel. For style, the geometric designs continue this year and I love that! The white and black monochromatic is super fun as well! I love the edgy, digital vibes for this year!
What’s your favourite spa or service?
I think I can go on and on; it’s hard to say one favourite! I loved a full body massage during one of my trips to China, where massages were incredibly affordable. Six hours of consistent full body massage would not break the bank. Added bonus would be foot massages in Taiwan and how can I forget natural hot springs in Osaka, Japan?!
What’s the one – yes, just one – product you can’t live without?
This one is easy – food, of course! As much as I love beauty and fashion, I cannot be starved one bit.
If you were a nail polish, your colour name would be…
Sparkly Candy. It will be a cotton pink with chunky chrome pink glitters and a textured sugary finish. I can guarantee you, this is gonna be a pain to remove! Ha!
Favourite beauty/style ad campaign of the past decade?
I’m into Japanese beauty brands and their methods of advertising. Here are my top three beauty ad campaigns: 1) Jill Stuart, 2) Majolica Majorca, and 3) Anna Sui. I love fantasy, art and floral garden themes; they truly show how make up can transform magically.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date of your primping and pampering?
For now: SparklyPlayground.com, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. I can’t wait to connect with you soon! *hearts*
