Season 4 of Top Chef Canada is heating up, and we are following closely. Last night, we sadly said good-bye to West Coast Chef Shelley Robinson, who was the seventh chef eliminated from this season’s competition. Shelley is a personal chef, author of a handful of books, a restaurateur, and a chef instructor at Vancouver Community College. Let’s see what this chef extraordinaire had to say about her experience on Top Chef Canada…

What were the biggest challenges and best rewards about being a part of the show?
Challenges: Distractions which took away from the focus on cooking. Rewards: The show increased my visibility as one of Canada’s top female chefs and culinary artists.
What are you most excited about for the future?
Mentoring young female chefs.
Why do you think the team at Top Chef Canada picked your audition tape?
I was chosen because I am one of Canada’s top female chefs, cookbook authors, and culinary artists.
Can you give any tips to chefs who aspire to be on Top Chef Canada?
Be prepared for the unexpected.

What is your favourite food/dish?
Fresh, local, seasonal and sustainable.
Finish this sentence. I love Toronto because…
…it’s a vibrant, diverse Canadian city.
What are three things you can’t live without?
Foodies (people who love to eat); local, seasonal, sustainable ingredients; farmers.
What are some of your favourite restaurants and why?
Actinolite, Elizabeth, and French Laundry. These are restaurants where the chefs are culinary artists: they use the highest quality seasonal and foraged ingredients from the terroir masterfully in a controlled and elegant environment. These culinary artists allow natural flavours to lead and do not mask or over-season.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date with all your globe-trotting?
You can find me on Facebook and on Twitter.
