Think groupie girl turned rock star bride. & For Love is a bridal line we can get behind, if only because we’d wear these gowns pretty much anywhere, wedding day or not. Founded in Toronto in 2012 by friends Angel Spendlove and Julie Forand, & For Love will (fingers crossed) help revolutionize what modern women think the wedding dress should be. We caught up with Spendlove and Forand to find out more about their bohemian bridal label and current obsessions…
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
We met at design school (OCAD) 3 years ago, and became fast friends. Our collection is made right here in Toronto. Our brand is a mash up of our last names: ‘Forand’ = ‘& For’, and ‘Love’ comes from ‘Spendlove’, which is Angel’s married surname.
What are the biggest challenges and best rewards about what you do?
This entire year has been challenging, but we’ve made it this far, together. Our partnership has been hugely rewarding. When a challenging situation comes up, at least one of us will know how to deal with it, if not, we figure it out together.
What are three things you can’t live without?
Our iPads, our & For Love family, and Maison Martin Margiela shoes.
Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
…it’s so diverse and full of energy!
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
Our fave place is Gusto 101, ’cause it has amazing food and a wicked industrial chic interior. And a wicked patio in the summer!
What’s one of your favourite go-to designers/brands or accessories lines and why do you sport their fashions?
We love designers that are a little more unusual. Dannijo and Unearthen for jewelry, and Mary Meyer caftans from Far Away Eyes on Queen St. East. We also love shopping vintage stores and finding unique pieces to mix and match with the rest of our stuff.
What products are always in your beauty/grooming bag?
Angel can’t live without her Nars lip-crayon in Dragon Girl, Bumble and Bumble salt spray, and Chanel blush in Orchid Rose. Julie loves Eminence organic sun defense powder and always carries her Clinique Black Honey lipstick.
What style trends are you obsessed with right now?
We are both loving leather sleeves on wool coats this winter. It adds such great contrast and feminine edge to a menswear inspired look.
What’s your favourite spa or service?
Our fave spa is Hammam for their heated marble table and body scrub.
