In the last few years it amazes me how the basic burger has risen to be the talk of the town. While gourmet burger shops have been opening everywhere for the last 10 years, more recently tons of restaurants are stepping up their games to create the ultimate burger. The Grid apparently decided it was time to celebrate this and created “Burger Week” whereby 24 restaurants in Toronto are participating to offer patrons their best and most innovative take on a burger from May 30th to June 3rd. Best part? Each burger is only $5.00 (with the exception of a handful of restaurants creating “platinum” or “black tie” burgers which are more pricey).
After recently doing a “big burger debate” vlog (https://viewthevibe.com/blog/the-big-burger-debate), I decided that it was imperative that we try at least one burger from the participating restaurants – our team chose Habits Gastropub. This was definitely NOT a bad choice. This funky gastropub chose to think outside the box and create a burger without meat. Instead, it was a portabello mushroom stuffed with loads of delicious crab, then deep-fried and served on a soft, buttery organic bun. Is your mouth watering yet? Let me help you out with the rest of our menu…. We also ordered “crazy” crispy polenta fries, a Caesar salad served with a brioche crusted poached egg and we had to try their staple chuck burger too, which was to die for. Now I know you need to watch this vlog. Trust me – it’s worth it.
