We have reached the end of our 3-part vlog adventure at Viamede Resort and thinking back to Sunday as I write this, I remember the sad feeling I had when I left. I have decided I will definitely be going back – probably Labor Day weekend. Just a 2-hour drive from Toronto with amenities you would find in hotels, Viamede combines cottage living with the vacation amenities we all look for when we want to relax.
Over the three days we were there we enjoyed a 7-course meal paired with wine, a beautiful boat ride around Stoney Lake, water-cycling on the lake, a tour of their farm, some fantastic pub food and the hottest chicken wings I’ve ever had as well as great live music. Our room was the epitome of comfort, and though not super modern, definitely very clean and comfortable. The most impressive thing for me was the 29-year old owner, Ben Samann. His passion for what he is doing is fantastic. He took the resort over from his parents in 2010 and has since been able to create a fantastic experience for his guests. The culinary aspect he brought to the resort has not only guests enjoying but also attracts the cottagers on the lake. Most of all, his attention to detail is very refreshing; Ben is very present in his resort. He walks around the grounds ensuring everyone is happy and has everything they need. Even when he goes home, he pops in the pub later to check that all is running smoothly. Impressive.

Not being from Toronto, I was never aware of what kind of resorts we had in the surroundings – except for Niagara. But we don’t always want to go to Niagara…. This is a fantastic alternate that really takes you out of the city life and into cottage country. A proper hidden gem that I hope stays as quaint, friendly and wonderful for a long time. If you’re looking for a quick getaway, put Viamede Resort on your list – you won’t regret it I promise. If you missed Part 1 & 2 of our 3-day stay at Viamede, check out the links below:
