It’s that time of year again! TIFF time! How many times have you read that line, right? Well I couldn’t help myself – the energy in the city changes, people from all over the world come into town and this year, I am particularly excited because we have a special section dedicated to all things TIFF. Parties, red carpets, interviews, fashion, gossip… Yes, dearest TIFF lovers, we’ve got you covered…
Prepping for TIFF this year made me think back to last year’s coverage. It was View the Vibe’s first year covering the annual affair in such depth, and I remember it being chaotic; fun chaos that kept us all on our toes and working into the wee hours of the night knowing we had to be at the office but a few hours later. Sleep was sparse but we loved every minute of it. There are a few segments that I remember with love, so I thought I’d share my top three with you to get you in the mood for TIFF 2013…
Nikki Beach TIFF Pop Up 2012
This was on of my all time favourite interviews. Not because we share the same name (*wink*), but rather because the people behind Nikki Beach have a beautiful story. Lucia Penrod, Co-Owner of the sensational international beach clubs/restaurants, shared the story behind how Nikki Beach came to be and it’s a touching and beautiful one. Take a look if I have perked your interest – I promise you it’s not what you would expect. We also take a tour of the very exclusive Spoke Club, re-done Nikki Beach/TIFF style. Can’t wait to discover the location they have chosen this year… You’d better believe we will be there!
TIFF Artists for Peace and Justice Party at La Societe
I remember this was night two and there were so many parties going on, we were scattered around the city. However, upon arrival at La Societe for the Artists for Peace and Justice party, I knew this was the place to be. It was time to call our beloved VTV TIFF host/writer, Sam Millar, who was stationed on the red carpet at the premiere of Seven Phsycopaths. She raced over and managed to interview the likes of Paul Haggis, George Strombo, and more about the importance of their mission to create educational and social programs for the kids of Haiti. Raising funds and building programs in education, healthcare and dignity since 2009, this non-profit organization is converting dreams into reality for the people of Haiti. Interested in helping? They are hosting another TIFF luncheon this year – here is where you can buy your tickets.
Hello! Magazine Knows How to Throw a TIFF Party
It’s no secret that Sam Millar is my best friend, as well as a very talented host, writer and actress, and I’m her biggest fan. So assigning her to cover the red carpet at the Hello! Magazine TIFF party was a no brainer. I attended the event and upon arrival I knew she would be in her version of heaven getting up close and personal with many of the actors attending our film festival. Ed Burns turned up and all of a sudden our host turned into somewhat of a groupie in a most endearing way. Keeping it real people – that’s what we do and that’s why I loved this TIFF segment!
Stay tuned cause we’re doing it all over again this year! Dressed head to toe in the fabulous dresses by Rent Frock Repeat, the ladies of View the Vibe will be sparkling all over the city!
