Truly one of the greatest travesties of our era, at least somewhere on the spectrum between global warming and toe socks, is the fact that New York Fashion Week Spring 2014 and TIFF 2013 are at the same time. While we Torontonians shop, dry clean, cut and pluck in anticipation of the world’s leading public film festival between September 5th and 15th, New York and international fashionistas are doing pretty much the same as they prepare to descend on the Mercedes-Benz stage at the Lincoln Centre September 5th to 12th. And while it would be heresy to say that I’d rather be anywhere else but Toronto in the coming weeks (we’ll revisit that statement after I’ve stood on a red carpet or two or eight for four hours straight… most likely in heels), a small part of my soul dies a lonely death thinking that I won’t be able to make it down for NYFW. So, to ease the pain for myself, and you, here are the fashion tweeters I’ll be following to keep up-to-date on all things Spring 2014…
The Designer: Rachel Zoe
Stylist + guilty TV pleasure + fashion designer, Rachel Zoe, always has access to the best shows and backstage scenes. Also, this year she will be showing her collection, Rachel Zoe, on September 11th, which is kind of great. Follow her at @rachelzoe or at her own hashtag, #RZFW.
The PR Girl: DKNY PR Girl
An insider look at Donna Karan New York and DKNY’s goings-on from castings, seatings, backstage and previews of what to expect on the catwalk. Also, she’s (Aliza Licht) hilarious and knows just about everything else happening in NYC fashion, period. Check out the DKNY show on September 8th and the Donna Karan New York on September 9th. Also, follow DKNY PR Girl at @dkny.
The Editor: Nina Garcia
Marie Claire’s Fashion Director and resident sass-queen on Project Runway always has a knack for getting into all the best places at the right times. She also tweets out her thoughts on what will be seasonal trends from the runway, which is pretty much the best heads-up a girl could ask for. For die-hard fans of Project Runway (isn’t everybody?), she’ll naturally also be at their catwalk show on September 6th. Follow Nina at @ninagarcia.
The Model: Cara Delevingne
The eyebrow “it-girl” of the year (apologies, Lily Collins), nobody has better backstage knowledge than the models. Especially when you’re as hot a commodity as Ms. Cara, who has graced the covers of pretty much every mag that counts, including Vogue, aka she be frands with Anna Wintour. Follow her at @caradelevingne.
The Celebrity: Kelly Osbourne
One of the few people who can honestly answer, “Yes, I am in fact the Fashion Police.” Kelly has been on red carpets and at fashion shows for years and, most importantly, has killer style herself. Anybody who has seen her on Fashion Police or as a guest judge on Project Runway also knows that she can give an informed critique. Also, she hangs out with Joan Rivers on a regular basis which is pretty awesome. Follow Kelly at @KellyOsbourne.
