It’s going to be a very cheesy weekend in Toronto as the first ever Mac & Cheese Festival melts down at the Liberty Market Building from Friday to Sunday. Some of Toronto’s best eateries are competing for “Best of Fest,” “Most Unique” and the crème-de-la-crème “People’s Choice” award, which comes with a bonus cash prize of $5000.
Naturally, Toronto’s most famous cheese restaurant, Cheesewerks, is a front-runner, but don’t expect your basic old cheddar. Known as Hogtown’s “Big Cheese,” owner Kevin Durkee has something different up his sleeve for festival goers: dessert. Why? It happens to be Durkee’s birthday, and the Big Cheese wants cake.

The Big Cheese will serve up single portions of the inventive ice cream all weekend, but if you stop by Sunday, you may just get a slice of his PICTON Mac + Cheese Ice Cream Birthday Cake.
Happy Birthday, Kevin!
