Cocktails anyone?
Since 2008, the award-winning wine bar, UVA (pronounced “oo-va”– Italian for grape), has been seducing sophisticated Vancouverites with its elegant and welcoming decor, creative cocktails, innovative selection of global wines and eclectic mix of import beers. With that being said and just in time for the festive season ahead, UVA’s stepped up their game with the recent introduction of an enticing new list of cocktails courtesy of one of Vancouver’s most creative mix masters (and recent UVA recruit) Lauren Mote.
As the new Bar Manager at UVA Wine Bar, and one of Canada’s leading mixologists, Mote brings over 13 years of experience in the food and beverage industry to her new position, including stints at Toronto’s Le Sélect Bistro and Vancouver’s Lumière and Goldfish Pacific Kitchen, to name a few. And if that wasn’t enough know-how to make her the perfect candidate for this role, this ‘spirits diplomat’ is also well-known in the cocktail-world as being the co-proprietor of Bittered Sling, the successful retail line of high-quality, small-batch bitters and extracts.
With the cocktail program, Mote is aiming for ‘complexity within simplicity.’ They have gone back to basics and will be showcasing top-tier spirits, bitters and terrific house-made ingredients in their seasonal and classical cocktails.
Broken down into three categories: seasonal, shaken and stirred, and featuring 26 beautifully-crafted, custom cocktails, there is something to tickle the taste buds of any cocktail aficionado. Here are some highlights from the list to tempt you…
Stemmed, a luscious blend of Syrah, spirits and Denman bitters
Minnow Grog, made with Flor de Cana Nicaraguan rum, Falernum, lime, Plum & Rootbeer bitters
Liberation, with Pere Magloire Calvados, Campari, Fino sherry, Lillet, Cascade Celery bitters
The smooth Chartreuse Milkshake, with Citadelle gin, green Chartreuse, cacao, lime and orange, Malagasy Chocolate bitters, egg white
And Gin-Gin Donkey, a refreshing mix of Beefeater gin, sage, ginger wine, lime, Grapefruit & Hops bitters
