Worried about your bone health and developing osteoporosis? You’re not alone. With vitamin D deficiency reaching a prevalence of 1 billion people worldwide, the risk is continuing to rise.

While vitamin D deficiency is incredibly common, most people are unaware they have it. Learning how to track the signs of a vitamin D deficiency will ensure you get help in time.

Otherwise, your bones could become brittle, leading to other health problems as well.

Here are three warning signs to watch for if you’re worried about a vitamin deficiency.

1. Weakened Immune System

Are you feeling sick more often than usual? Vitamin D plays a part in helping your body maintain a strong immune system. Without it, your body might struggle to fight off bacteria and illnesses.

Vitamin D interacts with the cells that help you fight infection. If you’re becoming sick more often, however, consider the vitamin D deficiency symptoms you’re experiencing.

In addition to getting sick, you might also feel tired more often. Headaches are a potential problem, too.

Are you healing slowly from an injury? Vitamin D helps your body produce the compounds necessary to form new skin. It could also help control inflammation, which is necessary for healing.

If these vitamin D deficiency signs sound familiar, speak with your doctor. They can have you tested for a potential deficiency.

2. Bone and Back Pain

Remember, vitamin D plays a part in your bone health by contributing to bone metabolism and calcium absorption.

If you develop low bone mineral density, it’s likely your bones have lost calcium over time. Improving your vitamin D intake can help you reduce the risk of a fracture.

If you’re experiencing bone or lower back pain, speak with your doctor. Otherwise, the pain could impact your mobility and quality of life.

How are your muscles? Inadequate vitamin D intake could lead to muscle pain, as well. Nerve cells called nociceptors help your body understand pain.

These nociceptors contain vitamin D.

If you’re in pain, you might want to consider taking a supplement like Vitamin D Supplements from Vitabiotics. A daily supplement can ensure you’re getting the daily intake your body needs.

3. Hair Loss

If you’re finding long locks on the floor more often, you might want to check in with your doctor. Hair loss is sometimes a result of a nutrient deficiency. It could also indicate you’ve developed a disease.

For example, alopecia areata can cause you to lose hair. Low vitamin D levels are associated with this condition.

However, hair loss is also caused by stress.

Scheduling a blood test with your doctor can help you determine the root cause of your hair loss. Otherwise, consider adjusting your diet. Certain foods could help you improve your hair growth and strand strength.

Don’t Stay Deficient: 3 Signs of a Potential Vitamin D Deficiency

A vitamin D deficiency could weaken your immune system, cause bone and muscle pain, or lead to hair loss. Don’t let these symptoms impact your quality of life. Instead, take a supplement to get the vitamin D you need.
