When it comes to the people, the cuisine, or the places you can go, Melbourne should be a go-to place for anyone with a willingness to travel and experience some of the wonderful diversity that this city has to offer. Listed below are 4 things you and/or your family can do if you find yourself in the great city of Melbourne sometime.
1. Eureka Observation Skydeck
One of the main attractions you should visit if you are in or around the CBD is the Eureka Observation Skydeck. The tower is located at Riverside Quay in Southbank. It was once the tallest building in Australia and is the highest observation deck in the southern hemisphere. It has some of the best views of the entire city and surrounding suburbs and even has a glass-floored edge you can walk out on if you are feeling particularly adventurous. The Skydeck has a bar as well for those wishing to indulge in some beverages whilst looking out on the glamorous Melbourne skyline.
2. Live music
If you are a music connoisseur, then you are in luck if you are in Melbourne. There are an incredible collection of bars, clubs, and other music venues all around town that host a massive variety of music genres. Anything from rock to jazz to blues to new age music, the city of Melbourne has it all. It makes for a great night out if you are in the mood to dance the night away. Even if you are out of the immediate CBD, all the suburbs around Melbourne are host to live music events so if you do your research, you can find a place to go any day or night of the week and bop along to some tunes.
3. Sporting Events
If you are a person who enjoys sports, then Melbourne is the place for you. It is known as the sporting capital of Australia and for good reason; the city hosts a variety of world-class sporting events that are visited by millions of people annually. People who are into Australian Open betting are in for a treat if they visit Melbourne in late January when the international tournament occurs. The Australian Open is the first of the four major Grand Slams. There are also events such as AFL games, cricket matches, soccer tournaments, and rugby showdowns that you and your family can attend if you are so inclined, depending on the time of year. Horse racing is also popular in Melbourne and a day at the races, especially in November, is a fun time for the whole family.
4. The Dandenongs
A day in the Dandenongs which is located a few kilometres north of the Melbourne CBD is a fantastic way to spend time with the family no matter what time of year. From the base to the top of the range, the winding roads can take you back to a long past, with incredible ferns along the roads and giant trees that provide shade. There are quite a few lookouts you can stop at to get a view of the city and suburbs, as well as restaurants, coffee shops, and quaint B&Bs dotted along the roads. A drive up to the Dandenongs is a very peaceful experience and is recommended if you are in Melbourne for a while and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main city.
