Currently in Toronto, there is this weird grey zone regarding marijuana’s legality and accessibility. The government has said that sweeping changes will come to Canada’s marijuana policy in the near future, with plans for Trudeau to legalize it for recreational use come Canada Day 2018. But as old dispensaries get raided and new ones pop up each day, it’s hard to really tell what exactly is going on, and what exactly the future holds for marijuana users in the city.
Putting all that aside, 420 is right around the corner and there are quite a few ways to enjoy a pot-filled day of fun on April 20th.
420 Toronto 2017 at Yonge and Dundas Square
From 12pm to 7pm, join thousands of friendly pot lovers at Yonge and Dundas Square for the city’s biggest marijuana appreciation party. Aside from the good stuff, enjoy a selection of live music, industry speakers and thought leaders, shoppable vendors and delicious food. Head over to the event’s Facebook Page for full vendor and performance details.

Bunz + CMW present: #Houseplants
If you’ve never heard of Bunz, it’s pretty freaking awesome. It’s a local bartering network that helps people trade unwanted or rarely used items for other items or skills, all sans money. They have teamed up with Canadian Music Week (which is running from April 18th to 23rd) to host a 420 dance party on Dundas West at the Garrison (1197 Dundas West). While technically the event is only held for 1 minute on 420, it’s a great way to wrap up your day. At 11:59 on the 20th stretching until 4:00 am, enjoy DJ sets, great dancing and of course, snacks! If you have a CMW wristband you can get in for free, if not you’ll have to shell out $10. Check out their Facebook event page for details.
420 Comedy Fest
If one of your favourite activities while stoned is to get in a good laugh, we suggest checking out the 420 Comedy fest, which runs from April 20th to 23rd at the Underground Cafe and Social Club (670 Queen Street East). Over the three days, you can check out over 20 talented stand up comedians, improv artists and sketch comedy skits. We suggest buying your ticket in advance, which can be purchased for around $8 through their website.
O’CANNABIZ Conference and Expo
While not technically on 4/20, the inaugural O’CANNABIZ Conference and Expo is worth checking out, especially if you’re interested in what Canada will look like once marijuana is legalized. Hosted by MNP Accounting, the weekend-long event will cover all the bud-y business bases. From discussion about the latest regulations and how to build a business to why weed is a superfood and how legal marijuana has become an industry led by women, the conference will be the best place to get schooled on the post-legalized world of weed. O’CANNABIZ takes place at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto from April 21-23. Learn more about the conference and expo here.
Toronto Green Market 420 Block Party
A party with a top-secret location? Yep, we’re interested! From 11am to 9pm, Toronto Green Market will be throwing an underground gathering with 30 local cannabis vendors, DJs, performances (including one by a group called Goddessfactory Twerk Squad), and more. At this event, you’ll be able to sample all of your favourite cannabis brands and explore new ones in the form of gourmet chocolates, vape, and baked goods. Tickets are $5 online or $10 at the door. The location will be announced the day before the event. Get full event details here.
