7 Major Reasons You Should Absolutely Be Eating Lobster

  • VIBE Team
  • June 16, 2021
  • 4 minute read
lobster

Did you know lobsters are basically immortal? This is due to their ability to repair their own DNA.

That means they experience never-ending growth and they often survive through catastrophic circumstances.

While many people enjoy seafood, lobsters are one of the most nutritious options.

Occasionally, locals like to dine on crayfish and lobsters on the weekends. But, lobsters are definitely one of the most popular seafood cuisines.

What better way to dine with friends and family? Here’s why you should eat more lobster.

1. Nutritious

A three and a half-pound lobster has 89 calories, 19 grams of protein, and less than one gram of fat. Protein is what gives people energy and helps them feel fuller.

Protein also combats hunger. So, let’s cut back on those meaty dishes and start adding lobsters instead.

Lobsters contain calcium and vitamin A, which help maintain visual function. Lobsters also contain at least 3% of iron.

They do, however, contain cholesterol. So, it’s important to be mindful of overconsumption.

Like everything else, lobsters should be consumed in moderation. Too much cholesterol can lead to stroke and heart disease.

Keep in mind that lobsters also contain mercury. The recommendation for consumption is around six times per month.

2. Thyroid Benefits

Lobsters can benefit the thyroid and help fight against diseases by providing selenium. Lobsters can also help metabolize hormones. A healthy thyroid means a balance of metabolism and growth development.

Some studies suggest that lobsters play a role in fighting against Hashimoto’s disease. It’s uncertain, however, so more research is needed.

There’s evidence that taking daily selenium can improve moods and well-being. People who have low levels of selenium can develop Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis occurs when an immune system attacks the thyroid.

Selenium can also act as an antioxidant, which helps cells restore balance and keeps the thyroid functioning.

3. Brain and Mental Health

Lobsters can benefit mental health by providing omega-3 fatty acids and help fight against Alzheimer’s disease. Lobsters can also fight against depression in adults.

Lobsters can benefit children too, especially for children with ADHD. Selenium deficiency can cause ADHD in children. So, dining on lobster occasionally can keep active children calm.

Vitamin B12 is important for brain health. Studies suggest that low levels of vitamin B12 are associated with memory loss. Examples include dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

By eating lobsters, you can gain benefits to reduce these risks. With such an amazing possibility, why not come check out more on the benefits of eating lobster for extra facts?

Depression is one of the most common mental disorders around the world. That’s why lobsters can bring a smile when you eat them with your friends and family. Plus, it can cure depression. What else do you need to ask?

4. Heart Disease

Heart disease is one of the most common causes of death in the US. That’s why lobsters can benefit those who have health issues.

While fish provide nutrition, lobster provides the most by having these types of omega-3s like EPA and DHA.

Both of these are said to fight against heart disease. Lobsters can reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels by reducing plaque buildup in the arteries.

Lobsters can also fight against inflammation. In a study, participants who took EPA and DHA levels decreased heart disease chance by 37%.

Shellfish can protect the part of our body known as prostaglandins which are active in omega-3 fatty acids.

5. Anticancer Effects

Omega-3s and selenium can fight against cancer, along with other foods that have EPA and DHA.

Anticancer foods can fight cancers such as breast, liver, ovarian, and gastric. They can also fight against tumors and possibly prevent cancerous cells from growing.

At this time, more research is required to be certain.

6. Fights Type 2 Diabetes

While it’s true lobsters should be eaten in moderation, the average consumption could be enough to prevent type II diabetes.

Salmon and black cod have low bad fats and have great lipids, which can help diabetics maintain a healthy life.

Besides that, lobsters can also fight anemia. This is because lobsters are high in copper. Like most seafood, lobsters are also high in iron, so it’s a plus for those who have iron deficiency.

7. Weight Loss

For those who’d like to change their diet and/or add something new, lobster would make a great option instead of salads. You can eat lobster with anything and incorporate your own recipes.

Shellfish can also aid with weight loss. Aside from lobster, those who want to lose weight should add fish to their diet. Lobster boosts the metabolism, which helps you lose weight.

Fun fact: you burn more calories by consuming protein than you would with carbs. If carbs are your main diet, now you have something else to help you feel fuller.

Advantages of Eating Lobster

Lobster brings exquisite taste and adds vitamins to your diet. Not only that, they provide benefits to our health.

Lobsters can also give us an energy boost if we consume them during the day. People don’t often give lobsters enough credit. That’s why we’re here to bring you some fun facts!

On National Lobster Day in September, why not use this chance to buy lobster? Because lobster is so popular, there’s a day dedicated to it. How cool is that? You don’t see that for crabs!
