  • VIBE Team
  • February 13, 2022
  • 4 minute read

You’ve heard all the hype about this city. You’ve had friends visit and come back with stories. You’ve seen shows and movies that take place here.

There are even 26 miles of public beaches in this amazing city!

Now, it’s finally your time to visit Chicago yourself. There are many fun things to do in Chicago, so there’s something for everyone with any interest. All you need to do is explore a few different options and then decide what type of things you want to do when visiting Chicago.

Before planning your trip to Chicago, continue reading below. Here are several great Chicago activities to consider trying while there.

1. Visit the Skydeck Tower

Chicago is home to two awesome observation decks you don’t want to miss. The Skydeck Chicago at Willis Tower is one of them. You’ll get some stunning views of the city below you.

It’s an experience like no other and worth the visit. Once on the deck, you’ll actually have views of four different states! The tower is the third tallest building in the Western Hemisphere and is 1,353 feet high in the air.

If you’re brave enough, take a step out on the glass boxes that extend 4.3 feet from the Skydeck’s edge.

2. Explore the Art Institue of Chicago

If you have an interest in art museums, then you’ll want to visit the Art Institute of Chicago. Here, you’ll find a large selection of pieces ranging from “Black Cross New Mexico” by Georgia O’Keeffe to “American Windows” by Chagall.

The museum has several wings and lots to see and explore. Take your time visiting each section of the museum and taking in all of the beauty held here. If you’re art fascination isn’t satisfied after a visit here, then don’t hesitate to explore the Museum of Contemporary Art as well.

When you purchase a Go Chicago pass, entry to both museums is included.

3. Stroll Through Millennium Park

A daily stroll through the Millennium Park located in Grant Park is always a great way to spend the day. The park is also one of the most popular attractions in the Midwest. Here, you’ll find a variety of architecture, public art, and more.

There’s no entrance fee, so you can visit the park as often as you’d like while visiting. The park is also home to the Jay Pritzker Pavillon, which hosts many different concerts throughout the year. Be sure to get a list of events during the time you’re there to ensure you don’t miss a thing.

4. Snap Photos at Cloud Gate

One famous sculpture you can find in Millennium Park that you must visit is Cloud Gate. This sculpture was created by Anish Kapoor and is more frequently referred to as “The Bean.” Cloud Gate is a rounded arch made with 168 reflective stainless steel plates.

While standing under it, you’ll see many different views and reflections. It’s the perfect photo opportunity because it creates an interactive environment like no other! Be sure to snap a few photos in various locations to get a few different angles and reflections.

5. Spend Time at Gallagher Way

Galagher Way is a plaza located near the Wrigley Field marquee. If you’re visiting Chicago during the winter, then this is a must-visit location. During the winter season, you’ll find ice skating, wreath making, and holiday moving screenings.

It’s a great activity for families to take part in and make some beautiful memories together. When you’re ready to call it a night, don’t forget to stop by Jeni’s, located close by and offering some delicious ice cream.

6. Climb Aboard the Centennial Wheel

The Navy Pier is another awesome location to visit while in Chicago. Located there are many great activities. One of those activities is climbing aboard the Centennial Wheel.

This Ferris wheel reaches 200 feet into the air and provides 360-degree views of the city. Unlike the common Ferris wheel design, the Centennial Wheel has enclosed gondolas for the riders to relax in.

7. View Marine Life at Shedd Aquarium

When near Lake Michigan, be sure to make a stop at Shedd Aquarium and soak up some amazing views of marine life. The aquarium is located on the lake and it’s one of the world’s largest indoor aquariums and can give you and your family an entire day of fun.

There’s even a Polar Play Zone where you’ll find dolphins, beluga whales, and sea otters splashing about and having fun.

8. Set Sail on Private Yacht

Are you visiting Chicago for a special occasion? Maybe you’re celebrating a birthday or visiting for a girls/guys trip. Whatever the reason may be, celebrate it by setting sail on a private yacht.

You and your guests will cruise down Lake Michigan on your yacht with the Chicago shoreline by your side. These yachts come with a crew who’ll pamper you and your guests throughout the entire excursion. It’s a unique way to celebrate an occasion in Chicago and explore the city from the water.
