The era of speakeasy places and secret dining spots is on the rise in The 6ix. The concept has always been an appealing one, so it’s no surprise that more are slowly creeping up. One of the newer upcoming ones is Korean-themed, brought to Torontonians by the same team behind 156 Cumberland. The restaurant has come to be known for its European dishes fused with Korean flavours.
156 Cumberland In Toronto
The team is planning to launch the Korean-themed bar in Toronto right below their restaurant location. The focus is set to be on cocktails, complete with a full bar space that also serves soju and an extensive list of wines. In terms of the flavour profile, they aim to bring in a Korean touch to the drinks, similar to what they’re doing with their food offerings at the restaurant.
156 Cumberland is still fairly young, having only opened to the public in October last year. The menu, while not long or packed with countless items, features dishes that are primarily meant to be like shared meals. Some of the things include burrata with Korean pears, beef tartare with gochujang, sujebi (Korean hand pulled pasta), chicken wings with black garlic glaze and others.
Diners are also spoilt for choice when moving on to the beverages menu. A selection of red and white wines, rosé, cocktails and beers are available. Non-alcoholic cocktails are there too, with ingredients like rhubarb syrup, yuzu, ginger, and tangerine juice.
A date has yet to be set for the opening of 156 Cumberland’s Korean-themed bar in Toronto. The restaurant also has its sights set on opening a patio in the coming months. You can follow their Instagram to keep up with updates about the opening.
