Summer in The 6ix might as well be known as foodie season, given the sheer number of culinary festivals and events. This includes pop-ups too, which is often an opportune time to try out new dishes. Adding to the pop-up scene is Waska Peruvian Chicken, which is a popular name for Peruvian food in Toronto. Helmed by chef Elias Salazar, Wasaka is hosting a one-day pop-up in the city next week.
Peruvian food in Toronto – Wasaka
The limited-time pop-up is keeping it short and simple with the menu, offering just five dishes. It’s taking place on July 13 from 3pm – 8pm at 805 Dovercourt Road. The star of the show is Peruvian Style Rotisserie Chicken (half). This is accompanied by french fries, a salad and a selection of sauces.
A Crispy Chicken Sandwich is also available, comprised of lettuce, avocado, and spicy rocoto pepper mayonnaise. All of this is served on a brioche bun.
Want to try some empanadas instead? You can find two options, which are beef and cheese. If you’re looking for something on the side, Yuca Fries has got you covered. And finally, you can conclude with some sweetness with Wasaka’s Strawberry Tres Leches Cake.
If the food doesn’t sound enticing enough, a Pisco bar will be there on site too, put together by Bedrock Toronto. You can sip on two signature cocktails, which are the Chicha Sour and Pisco Mule. Other beverages include tequila, mezcal, and beer.
The concept for Wasaka Peruvian Chicken was initiated in late 2018, followed by multiple pop-ups in the city. It was put on pause due to COVID-19. The team later launched it as a delivery concept at Dovercourt House. A new and permanent location is expected to open this year. Keep an eye out on their socials!
