Just over 3% of the US population considers themselves to be vegan. While that number isn’t particularly high, the amount that it has grown over the last decade has been promising for people that hope for a future where animals are no longer commercialized.
The big issue that people have with veganism is that they feel as though if they gave up animal products, they’d give up the joy of eating. After all, some of the best sweets on the face of the planet require things like milks, eggs and the like to make.
Here’s the truth though… Vegans have a ton of choices when it comes to the food that they eat. And if you don’t believe us, we’re about to prove it!
Below, we rattle off some of our favorite vegan sweets that would impress any animal product loving human.
1. Banana Ice Cream
Our team loves bananas and we love vegan ice cream so combining these two faves together seemed like a no-brainer!
Making banana ice cream can be as simple as throwing a ton of frozen bananas in a blender with some sugar and cinnamon. You could also add a little bit of soy milk for a smoother consistency.
2. Bean Brownies
Beans are a versatile vegan staple that provides some flavor, protein and a hearty consistency to any dish. If you’re a brownie lover that isn’t sure how to go about making a vegan iteration of the desert classic, you’re going to want to try combining soybeans with vegan iterations of milk, eggs and chocolate.
You’ll love the result!
3. Peanut Butter Cookies
Great news… Peanut butter is naturally vegan!
Take that base ingredient and add in some oats, vegan chocolate and other baking essentials, and you’ve got a sweet feast on your hands.
4. Apple Cider Doughnuts
Here’s a fancy way to support your love of apple cider, veganism and doughnuts all in one go!
Grab some apples, vegan milk, flower and whatever else you want packed into your doughnut. Then, make your batter, form your masterpiece and fry/bake till ready.
These treats are a hit with both kids and adults so be prepared to share!
5. Peanut Butter Cups
Since peanut butter is such a staple of veganism, you shouldn’t be surprised that we’ve included two peanut butter sweets on our list!
Coat a cupcake tray with some vegan chocolate, pack each slot with peanut butter then add another layer of chocolate on top. Put your tray in the freezer for a day and just like that you’ll have some to-die-for vegan peanut butter cups.
How can a dish that has cheese in its name be vegan? We’re not sure exactly because we’re more food eaters than food scientists but we’re not lying to you when we say that vegan cheesecake is incredible!
The key ingredient in vegan cheesecake is silken tofu so pick some up, buy a graham cracker crust and get to cooking!
7. No-Bake Chocolate Chip Cookies
Do you want to know what the worst part about baking vegan cakes, cupcakes, pies, etc. is? Baking.
Why? Because baking takes forever!
That’s why we love the vegan sweets favorite that is no-bake chocolate chip cookies!
All of the core elements that go into no-bake vegan cookies are plant-based meaning that they can be eaten raw! Throw together all of your favorite vegan cookie essentials, roll them together and pop your prize in your mouth.
It’s seriously that simple!
8. Banana Bread
We told you in our first point that we loved bananas so here’s another yellow fruit go-to for vegans – Banana bread!
With ingredients like flax and spelt flower, you won’t need the help of eggs or butter to get this bread to rise in the oven. Just mush your banana into your base, add some chocolate chips if you’re feeling really adventurous and enjoy.
9. Carrot Cake
Once you get familiar with vegan cake baking ingredients, you can pretty much make any kind of cake. One of our favorites that we think you should prioritize though is carrot cake!
Carrots are of course vegan already so mixing these veggies into your vegan cake batter and topping with some dairy-free frosting will have your taste buds singing almost as loud as if you decided to pick up a professional vegan cake from Simply Eggless or another vegan sweets master!
10. Apple Pie
There’s nothing more American than apple pie so sufficed to say that US-based vegans have worked hard to make the animal-free iteration of this desert darn near perfect!
And by “worked hard” we mean that they actually didn’t do much at all because many standard apple pies are vegan straight out of the box.
Chop up some apples, find a great crust, add some cinnamon, lemon juice, and soy milk, and you’ll be munching in no time.
11. Vanilla Cupcakes
Looking for a sweet that’s a little bit flatter on the taste spectrum? Then look elsewhere because vegan vanilla cupcakes rock!
Egg free cupcakes are simple to make and when you add a dash of vanilla soy milk and lemon to your recipe, they’ll really shine.
12. No-Bake Chocolate Truffles
Traditional chocolate truffles are pretty easy to make typically. The vegan version is even easier!
All you need for these is vegan chocolate, coconut oil, vanilla, and some coconut milk… Oh! And an appetite.
13. Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
Grab some avocado, coconut milk, chocolate, mint leaves, dates, and vanilla… Seriously, go do that right now.
Those 6 ingredients serve as the base for what is likely the best ice cream that you will ever eat.
Once you’ve tried this frozen treat, summer will never feel the same without it.
