Clean beauty is thankfully all the rage and for good reason. Putting products that contain harmful ingredients onto our skin is a beauty no-no. It’s so important to be educated and aware of what’s in our fave beauty products because they do eventually absorb into the skin and into our bodies. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not telling you to do a major overhaul of your beauty cupboard. Use your fave products but just keep in mind that there is likely a clean alternative you could swap it with.
If you’re considering adding a few clean beauty products into your routine, then look no further. Products without harmful ingredients can thankfully be found at beauty stores all over. Whether you’re a drugstore diva, or you’re looking to splurge, here are a few clean beauty swaps to make!

Foundation
You’re applying foundation directly to your face and it’s likely the product you use the most of so if you’re looking to ‘go clean’ then you might want to consider this a good starting place. There are a wide variety of clean foundations out there so do some trial and error to find which one works for you and your routine. Do you prefer lighter coverage or a more full coverage? Matte or luminous finish? Have some fun and do some experimenting!
My Pick: Ilia True Skin Serum Foundation
Eyebrows
Can’t go without pencilling in your eyebrows every single day? I feel you. Swap out your dusty old brow pencil and reach for a clean brow gel that’ll comb each individual hair and hold it into place. Plus the added tint is great if you have sparse or patchy spots! A plant-based formula will work just as well as non-clean ones so it’s really a win-win beauty situation!
My pick: W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Brow Gel
Bronzer
Get a gorgeous sun-kissed glow without any nasties! A clean bronzer will work just as well then non-clean alternatives. When buying any powders or bronzers, you want to look for products that are talc-free as they’ll absorb moisture without causing irritation, plus they’ll look less cakey, too which is always a plus!
My pick: Kosas The Sun Show Moisturizing Baked Bronzer
Highlighter
Can’t go without your highlight? I’ve got you covered. A clean highlight is key to getting a natural looking, dewy glow so you’ll definitely want to add one into your brand new clean beauty routine. While powder formulas are a sinch to apply, for summer I reccomend a cream-based formula because it won’t melt away and blends effortlessly.
My pick: rms beauty Living Luminizer Highlighter
Mascara
A clean mascara is truly one of the most important products to have in your beauty routine. The product is applied so close to your eyes and in all honesty, some probably does enter your eye at the end of the day. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a clean formula because anything less just won’t do!
My pick: Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Nourishing Mascara
Eyeliner
Another product that goes super close to our eyes is eyeliner (duh, it’s in the name!) so it’s crucial to find out that’s non-irritating and as natural as possible. While your run-of-the-mill liners might have impressive staying power, there are clean alternatives that do the job just as well, if not better! You owe it to yourself and your eyes to source out the best.
My pick: Juice Beauty PHYTO-PIGMENTS Liquid Line & Define
Lipstick
Last but certainly not least is lipstick. Studies show that you really do end up ingesting a very small portion of your lipstick everyday so wouldn’t you want to ensure that your lippie doesn’t contain any gross chemicals? I think so. There are endless options when it comes to a clean and naturally formulated lipstick and this is where you can have the most fun. Play around with colours, formulas, finishes, and really see which brands and types you like the most!
