Here at View the Vibe, we love brands that carry a global conscience and Aveda is no exception. This April, they’re celebrating Earth Month by giving back to the community. The Aveda team has launched a number of initiatives that aim to raise $6 million globally (their target for Canada is $600,000), in support of clean-water programs and resources. It’s not everyday you hear a major beauty company giving back to the world on such a large and impressive scale. Since 1992, Aveda has raised over $32 million (wowza!) in efforts to help environmental sustainability.
Their first of many campaigns is the Cut-A-Thon and Beyond, where participating Aveda Salons (on April 7th) will donate 100% of sales (yup, that’s a whopping 100%) from all salon service to aid clean water sustainability. Last year, the company set a Guinness World Record for the Most Money Raised for Charity in 24 Hours Through Haircuts! So book your appointments now and you can be sure you’ll be a part of history. Along with Aveda’s Cut-A-Thon and Beyond, the company will be hosting a Walk for Water, which will take place nationally on April 22nd, where participants will walk 6 kilometres – the distance an average woman in East Africa walks to get access to clean water.
If you’re not available to participate in these campaigns, fear not because there’s one more way you can be a part Aveda’s global initiative. Starting March 23rd, all Aveda Salons and Spas will be selling their limited edition Light The Way Candles. Once again, Aveda will donate 100% of the candle sales to various clean-water programs. Now these are no ordinary candles. In the past years, sales from these candles have helped protect over 700 watersheds, lakes and rivers, and have supported over 20,000 women working for clean water in their communities. Oh and we forgot to mention that the artwork displayed on the packages were all drawn by talented children from the Umbari Village. Impressive, don’t you think?
