Nobody understands what a Canadian’s beauty regime needs in the heart of winter quite like another Canadian. Why trust our skin and face to anyone who doesn”t know what it feels like to try to look beautiful when -20 starts to feel like the norm? Thankfully, there are a ton of Canadian beauty lines shaking up the industry these days, and these our the ones that rock our world.
Vasanti Cosmetics
We dare you to click on the link above just to check out the latest from Vasanti Cosmetics: the Vasanti Lip and Cheek Color Pod that somehow makes downsizing our makeup cases seem like the sexiest idea ever. Created by three Canadian women, Vasanti has a full range of makeup that includes everything from foundation and loose power to eye shadow and mascara.
Noir
Montreal-based makeup line Noir lives up to its name. Inspired by the LBD, what started as a line of timeless black beauty essentials from eye liner to mascara now has eye shadow palettes and nail colours, but it’s still a predominantly black line, hence why Noir’s Black Mania Kohl Eyeliner is such a gem of staple in our beauty bags.
Mèreadesso
View the Vibe Tastemaker Linda Stephenson captured our attention with her amazing unisex skincare line Mèreadesso. The former beauty industry exec decided to launch her own line given she knew exactly what she wanted in a skin care line and decided to create it instead of fruitlessly hunting for it. The All-in-One Moisturizer is one of our current favourite products for both guys and gals.
Bare Love Beauty
We are all about Rebecca Cook’s 5-product skin care line Bare Love. Cook’s 5 oil-based products go along way with Bare Love Body, Hair, Face, Lips and Eyes keeping happy customers moisturized with all environmental sustainability and all-natural ingredients. The Ottawa-based line is manufactured in Montreal and already has a cult following despite only launching in 2012. barelovebeauty.com, ebeauty.ca and dermstore.com, and in select stores and Moksha Yoga studios nationwide.
Crawford Street Skincare
Crawford Street Skincare’s fair trade and organic line gained popularity for its amazing lemon deodorant, which is the Holy Grail of products for anyone who has a deodorant sensitivity and is on the hunt for something that still works without being irritating. While all Crawford Street Skincare products are exceptional, we’re all their Frankincense and Myrrh Hand Cream this time of year. Let the other beauty companies make cliche holiday scents like peppermint. Frankincense and myrrh? How badass is that!
Cake Beauty
Cake Beauty founder Heather Reier actually started her beauty line in her kitchen years ago by mixing natural ingredients together, like butters and oils, and testing the results. Fast forward to today and she’s got one of the most sought after beauty lines in the country. If you want to stay moisturized this winter, her body butters will change your life, and your iPhone and wallet need to make room for Cake Beauty’s Milk Made Veleteen Hand Creme, which will make your hands feel like you’ve never washed a dish in your life.
Bite Beauty
How do Canadians manage to rock bright red and pink lips in the heart of winter when most people would have a painfully chapped pout on their hands? With Bite Beauty’s incomparibly awesome all-natural lip care products, of course. There’s nothing like fighting dry lips with a bold colour to prove that killing to birds with one stone can be kinda sexy.
