If you need an extra push to keep up with your New Year’s resolutions, look no further. View The Vibes’ Erinn Stewart rounds up the best fitness apps on the market… and they’re all free!

January is almost over and you still haven’t managed to get off the couch to meet that New Year’s Resolution of yours? There’s an app for that. Staying motivated and meeting your goals when it’s so freakin’ cold out isn’t an easy feat. Which is why the help of a fitness app can make all the difference. From timing your runs to tracking your calories to mastering tricky yoga poses, here are the best fitness apps to get you moving, without costing you a dime.

Nike+ Running

This app is a must-have for all runners out there. It features a built-in map to track your route, your total distance and pace. It stores this information so you can compare future runs and achieve your goals. You can also connect with friends to challenge and compete, which makes running a lot more tolerable. Trust us.

Daily Yoga

Less of a runner and more of a yogi? There is still an app for that. Daily Yoga features over 100 yoga poses and classes (yes, they have a 30-day yoga challenge). Plus, you can do from the comfort of your home. Best part? All their classes are under 30 minutes, making it nice and easy to squeeze in a workout before heading out for the day.

C25K

Here’s a great app for those who aren’t yet runners (but are aspiring to be!). C25K, which stands for “Couch to 5K”, is a training program to do just that. The 8-week program is designed to help improve your strength and cardio. It does so by using an audio couch and a walk/run method. With this app, you’ll be off your couch and running your first race in no time!

My Fitness Pal

Probably one of the more well-known fitness apps, My Fitness Pal is a one-stop shop kind of program. It tracks all aspects of your workout and diet. Log your food (with an easy barcode scanner) to track your calories and nutritional info and keep track of your exercise to meet your goals. It’s quick, easy to use and will help keep you on track in 2018.

Spotify Running

Yes, it’s another running app. But it’s totally worth mentioning because music is one of the best motivators for working out. Download Spotify hit browse and select “Running” from the list of Genres & Moods and choose a playlist. The app will detect how many steps per minute you run and then play songs with a tempo that matches your pace. This keeps you motivated to just keep running.

Svveat

Meet your goals without spending a single dime at the gym. This app sources all the free workouts happening in Toronto and the GTA by day of the week. Whether you’re looking for a running crew to join, a yoga or aquafit class, or a community gym that allows for drop-ins, this app tracks them all.
