Japan is always pushing boundaries when it comes to beauty treatments. This time, they’ve taken the facial to the next level with everyone’s favourite slow moving specimen, snails.
Facials are one of the most popular treatments at spas, hailed for their rejuvenating skin properties. Spa treatments are constantly drawing on natural ingredients, so it was only a matter of time before one of those ingredients happened to be living.
According to the Telegraph, the spa that pioneered the snail facial in Japan claims that snail mucus is ideal for facials because of the antioxidant properties and hyaluronic acid that helps promote moisture in the skin and reduce inflammation. While only currently available in Tokyo at the Ci:z.Labo salon, the $243 price tag ensures the snails are kept on an organic vegetable diet, so you can be sure that only the best in snail slime will come in contact with your face.
