The Gladstone Hotel is one of the hippest boutique hotels in Toronto, sitting pretty on Queen West. It has 37 rooms, all designed and inspired by people of interest who stay at the hotel when in Toronto. Recently, culinary adventurer, chef, artist, and seven-time Guinness World Record holder, Bob Blumer, was privileged to design room 403 in homage to his favourite foods and kitschy food characters.
The room is colourful and full of life with sunshine pouring in from the huge window overlooking Queen Street West. It features one of only three kitchenettes in the hotel where Bob has included some of his favourite kitchen tools as well as his nine favourite bottles of wine (sold at totally reasonable prices!) Some of the unique décor pieces include a Swiss cheese ceiling paying homage to what Bob refers to as “sunken cottage cheese” ceilings, a fanciful Fruit Loops armoire that feels like you’re stepping into a box of the sugary children’s cereal, and renowned photographer Fausta Facciponte decked the room out with photos of some of Bob’s favourite food mascots like Mr. Peanut, the Pillsbury Doughboy, and the Trix Rabbit.
I sat down with Bob to talk food, weird restaurants and his favourite places to travel. He’s a pretty cool dude – you should watch…
