It’s time to save the date! It’s just been announced that Global Citizen Live 2021 will take place later this month, on September 25th, and just WAIT until you hear the lineup. The star-studded event will feature performances by BTS, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Demi Lovato, Andrea Bocelli, Duran Duran, and Toronto’s own The Weekend and Shawn Mendes, among others.
The 24-hour live broadcast consists of events and performances across all six continents. Cities including: Lagos, Rio de Janeiro, New York City, Paris, London, Seoul, Los Angeles, and Sydney are all participating in Global Citizen Live this year. It’s all done in an effort to bring us together to help defend the planet and defeat poverty. Just like last year, the event will be focused on ending the COVID-19 pandemic and helping the communities around the world that have been the most affected.
The full line-up has also been released, and it’s exciting! Our girl Jennifer Lopez has just been added as a performer at the NYC concert. She’ll be joining Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Coldplay, Lizzo and more. It doesn’t end there though, the Lagos line-up includes artists Femi Kuti, Davido, Tiwa Savage, and Made Kuti.
Got a thing for Paris? The Paris line-up includes major names like Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, DJ Snake, H.E.R., Black Eyed Peas, Christine and the Queens. Plus there will be a special guest performance by Angélique Kidjo.
“It is very important to me to be a part of this historic event to spread awareness and encourage action toward helping the people of Ethiopia during this devastating humanitarian crisis they are faced with. It’ll be an honour to perform and help bring support to these citizens who are suffering so severely.”the weeknd
Global Citizen Live is all part of Global Citizen’s Recovery Plan for the World. The a year-long campaign works to help end COVID-19 by calling on governments, philanthropists, and the private sector for financial commitments to help start a global recovery. Global Citizen has earned support worldwide from world leaders, politicians, and other officials as well.
In addition to calling on our governments and leaders to help with COVID recovery, there’s also a major need to curb climate change and world hunger. One of the other main goals of this major media event is to get the resources needed to protect and restore at least 1 billion trees by 2022. These efforts will help slow down the effects of climate change, and provide meals for the 41 million people on the brink of famine.
“Some seem to think that the current crisis is merely an interlude, that the vaccine will take things back to how they were. That is, I believe, a historical mistake. Our growth trajectories have generated highly inflammable inequalities within our very societies, consumed the planet’s natural capital and exacerbated pre-existing geopolitical tensions. Our answer must be a collective one towards new models. I thank Global Citizens for organising this major event in Paris, from where I hope the entire world will hear this message: let’s act together to build a fairer and safer world!”Emmanuel macron, president of france
The live event will be available to watch on ABC, ABC News Live, BBC, FX, iHeartRadio, Hulu, YouTube, Twitter, and more.
