Looking for a sure-fire way to cool off this summer? Head on over to the newly opened CHILL Ice House at 82 Bathurst Street, where you can shake off the sun and lounge in sub-zero temperatures. At CHILL, everything from the walls to the furniture, DJ booth, chandeliers, and cocktail glasses are constructed entirely from ice, so it’s recommended to accept the parkas that’ll be handed out to you before you enter the freezer-like space. You might feel somewhat ridiculous sipping on a cosmopolitan while dressed like you’re about to go skiing in Antarctica, but it makes for a great bonding experience with friends and family. After all, nothing unites Canadians more than the cold.
If you can’t check it out this summer, no worries – CHILL plans to be a permanent addition to Toronto’s tourism scene, which is nothing if not a bold move. After all, Toronto suffers from sub-zero temperatures for a horribly unfair portion of the year, so you might wonder why you would choose to sit at a bar like this in February when you can just go outside and gawk at all the ice you want. But Nic and Gresham Bayley, the two brothers behind the concept, aren’t worried. This bar isn’t just a freezer to get wasted in: it’s also a part-time art gallery, with handcrafted masterpieces that pretty much ensure this will be one of the coolest venues in the city.
