Foundation Room, a longstanding Toronto Moroccan supper club / lounge recently closed its doors and is going through a major overhaul. In March, the venue will be opening as D.W. Alexander, a premium cocktail lounge ideal for the after work crowd in the financial district. D.W. Alexander is being designed by the renowned Design Agency responsible for designing famous spaces including Momofuku, the Shangri-La Residences and Soho House.
The name and decor is inspired by D.W. Alexander, the largest sole-leather trader in Western Canada, who originally built this warehouse to house his leather business. The venue is being transformed to incorporate the heritage of its location in the basement of the rare 19th century warehouse at 19 Church Street, with decor inspired by an old fashioned, upscale gentlemen’s club.
With plans to open in March, we can’t wait to see what sounds like a traditional yet cozy space perfect for cold winter evenings.
