Dating in a big city can be somewhat frustrating. Always going through the “get to know you” first date can be tiresome when you almost feel like you’re in a job interview. So why not make a first date more interesting and add a little competitive fun into the mix so you can really see what your date is all about? Here is a first date for the fun-seeking competitor that allows you to stay in town, eat, drink and interact in an entertaining environment. A little competition never hurt anyone, so why not test your date’s skills?
Keeping in mind that this remains a first date, I have three great spots where you can have fun, eat well, have a couple drinks and get your competition on. First stop? Why not check out the newly opened Switch on Colborne Street. They’re the new kid on the block and serve up some great cocktails in a fun vibe. Their lower level is a gaming room with vintage video machines (remember Ms. Pac Man? Yeah, they have one of those!) and a table hockey game. Cocktails and a game of Ms. Pac Man… a great start to your date!
If all is going smoothly and the competition hasn’t stirred up any animosity (if it has, that’s a sign – get out now), saunter over to SPiN for some yummy grub and a game of ping-pong. Such a fun environment, great room and the new menu is both delicious and as locally sourced as possible, which is always a bonus. Their dishes are mostly sharable and include delicious items like Can o’ Tuna (a sustainable Ahi Tuna tartare with quail egg and toast), Rodney’s oysters, Slow n’ Low Beef Ribs, and Cast Iron Prawns (inland farmed prawns tossed in garlic, Old Bay and chives). Nice bite sized food so you can concentrate on winning that ping-pong game…
Then if you still have energy, take a stroll over to The Ballroom for a game of pins to end the night and work off your dinner. This place has an amazing energy, fabulous drink and beer selections, and if you happen to be there on a gorgeous summer evening, the rooftop patio is an awesome spot to enjoy cocktails in the open air. That said, if your competitive streak is still going, jump onto a lane and see who can win two out of three. Even put a wager on it… and you don’t have to make money the prize. *winks*
Surely this is a winning combo to get to know someone, have a little fun, and impress your date with your novel selection of cool Toronto spots!
