We’ve always got time to share food-friendly news, especially that which involves local charitable dogoodery. So when we heard that nearly $3,500 dollars had been collectively raised by local breweries and Vancouver Craft Beer Week for donation to A Better Life Foundation, we were inspired.
More than thirty of the province’s top-notch breweries banded together to create an Altbiere as part of this year’s popular craft beer festival. Using donated ingredients and the recipe behind Storm Brewing’s Red Sky Alt as inspiration, master mixers James Walton (Storm Brewing) and 49th Parallel’s own Graham With crafted a special release.
Limited-quantities of the beer were consequently sold to aficionado’s through specialty private stores and select government stores in BC with a percentage of sales funneled back to support Vancouver-based Save On Meats Breakfast Token Program through owner Mark Brand’s newly-minted A Better Life Foundation.
Once the coins were counted (all $3,500 worth) a total of 1,500 tokens were tallied up – to be divided amongst Vancouver Women’s Health, Vancouver Police Department and The Rainier Women’s Treatment Centre. These tokens will be distributed throughout Vancouver’s downtown east side with a special donation set to take place at Parallel 49 Brewing Company this Thursday (August 15th).
