International Women’s Day is right around the corner, which means we can look forward to a lot of exciting initiatives. One such is the launch of We Are Womxn (WAW), a national nonprofit and digital-first initiative. They aim to empower Black, Indigenous, LGBTQ2S+ and Womxn of Colour entrepreneurs in the food and beverage industry.
As part of their celebrations for the launch on March 8th, 2021, they have created the first edition of the WAW box. Each one contains special food and beverage products made by BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ women across the country. There is a variety of delicious items, including vegan cookie dough, date sugar, hot sauce and Indigenous womxn-owned maple syrup.
Challenging stereotypes and providing opportunities for women is at the forefront of We Are Womxn’s goals. This includes a grant and mentorship program and a business interview & learning series.
And they’re not alone in wanting to have a better future. They have partnered with The Canadian Women’s Chamber of Commerce and the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association. The BlackNorth initiative is also one of the official partners.
The WAW boxes will be going out to 50 influential women within the country. It’s the first phase leading up to the goal of getting the boxes to over 10,000 households nationwide.
