Little Italy is in the midst of a revival. Gone are the days of Italian independence. The strip of College Street past Bathurst has seen a bump in culinary offerings ranging from gourmet sammies to Japanese noodles to craft-worthy hot dogs to one of our favourites, contemporary French cuisine. Enter Darwin Bistro Bar, the latest answer to the question, Where should we go for dinner?
Darwin Bistro Bar offers up an evolved evening out. Remarkably delicious updates on French classics and other contemporary fare, craft cocktails, a sweet li’l vibe, and a cozy room set the tone for hours-long stays. Their brunch is a feat to behold. Their late night bar menu an exercise in deciding-on-only-one-item futility.
Steak Frites get an update with accompanying braised shallot and house-made tartar sauce. Eggs Benny will never be the same after you’ve downed Darwin’s Ben Addict – with duck confit subbed in for the standard porkiness. And two words off the bar menu is all you need to hear to know you’ve got to book a table: Ratatouille Samosas.
