No, summer is not over. But let’s be real: It’s close to being over and that is made all too real because CNE is on and TIFF is around the corner. Those are the two Toronto events that help us Torontonians transition into the reality of the autumn chill. But we aren’t in fall… yet. Before the new season creeps up, we get to participate in one of the world’s most recognized festivals, the Toronto International Film Festival. Every year the city turns into a mecca for cool, stylish, jet-setting people who flock to our city hoping to see and be seen. For this, us locals need to look good – damned good. So two weeks before this town turns into a mini Los Angeles, we go into our TIFF preparation so we can keep up with the cool kids…
Drink More Water
You may already drink two litres of water per day (if you don’t, you should), but two weeks before your body goes into TIFF party mode up the intake to a minimum of three litres per day. You will be shocked at the difference this makes in your body. You may be running to the bathroom a lot more, but that’s all the toxins exiting your body. The result is less puffiness and glowing skin.
Cut Carbs, Sugar, and Dairy
For two weeks, try to cut out all carbs, sugar, and dairy. This means eating a lot of lean protein, vegetables, and salads. The effect of cutting out these three diet killers is tremendous and best seen after doing it for two consecutive weeks. The results are a flatter tummy, less bloating, decreased appetite, and, overall, you will feel a lot better. We will point out that when we say “carbs,” we also mean good carbs like sweet potato, brown rice, and quinoa. These may be good for you, but if you’re trying to shrink for TIFF avoid these to see amazing results!
Don’t Eat After 7pm
Typically this should be a rule of thumb for everyone, but this can be really difficult especially when we all have such insane schedules. However, if you can limit yourself to drinking only tea and water from 7pm until you go to bed, your results will come a lot faster than you may think.
Dilute Your Wine
Wine drinker? You should probably cut it out altogether, but if you follow all the tips above and work out we have discovered the best trick to still enjoy your wine, without all the calories. This can typically only be done with white wine, but if you pour yourself a 3oz glass of wine and add 3oz of Perrier, you just cut your calories in half and you’re hydrating your body. Seriously, it’s the best diet trick ever discovered!
It’s August 18th and TIFF starts on September 4th. That gives us all 2 1/2 weeks to get TIFF ready… and… go!
