Whether you’ve got an endless budget or just enough groceries until payday to put together a passable picnic spread, you can still rock date night with just a little inspiration. For Vv Magazine’s new #DIY lifestyle series for generation #YOLO, Lauren Coholan shows you how to plan an epic date in 5 easy steps…
Whether it’s a first date, a relatively new relationship, or you have been married for 10 years, it’s easy to get stuck in the same old routine, especially when it comes to planning date nights. When you and your significant other are venturing to the same spot week after week and know what you are going to order even before you arrive, it’s time to drum up a little creativity and try something new. Regardless of what stage your relationship is in, follow these tried and true steps to master the art of planning an epic date night.
Step 1: Plan Ahead
Do a little research. Find out what your date is interested in and plan accordingly. Make reservations, get directions, and know the cost. Trust us, you don’t want to get lost and you definitely don’t want any surprises when it comes time to pay the bill.
Step 2: Be Creative
Date night can be so much more than dinner and a movie. Find out if there are any fun events happening in the city, check concert listings, or plan your own personal pub crawl on bikes. Trying to save money? Why not have a picnic in your backyard and sip champagne under the stars? Or get to know your date by cooking dinner together while organizing your own personal wine tasting. Be creative and don’t be afraid to reveal to your date your true authentic self.
Step 3: Learn something together
What better way to strengthen your relationship than to problem solve and learn together? It doesn’t have to be fancy — just fun. Take an art class together, try a hobby or sport, or wander through a museum. If it’s a successful first date, maybe they will think of you every time they pass a Van Gogh painting.
Step 4: Get to know each other/ Reconnect
If it’s a first date, maybe a loud concert isn’t the best place for you to have a good conversation. Get to know your date by asking questions and don’t be afraid to dig deep. If you’re in a long term relationship, now is a good time to reconnect by talking about your goals and dreams for the future.
Step 5: Relax and Have Fun
Ultimately, a date is supposed to be fun, so if you are stressing out about every detail your date will likely feel your tense energy. Remember (especially if it is a first date) that it is not an interview. Relax and be yourself. Leave the baggage at home. Starting the night with a glass of wine won’t hurt either.
