It’s Pride Week, so we couldn’t be more excited to get a little more inventive with our makeup around the View The Vibe office. Truth be told, there are about three multi-coloured boas that come and go from the coat closet year-round, so Pride Week isn’t so much of an excuse to be bold around here as it is just another occasion to dress up.
On Friday, we showed you how to “Do This Don’t: Rainbow Nails,” so what better follow up than blue eyeshadow to match? Blue eyeshadow always gets a bad rap, and it will eternally be associated with the Mary Kay ladies of the 1980s. Nevertheless, you know as well as we do that the Mary Kay lady who won the pink Cadillac for her district rocked some badass blue eyeshadow in her day, and she’d still be a real beaut today.

So how do you score a cool blue hue that’s 2013 appropriate? We like a blue that’s a bit deeper for a bit of a post-80s goth-inspired vibe, like Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow in Iridescent True Blue (pictured above). Just sweep in on all over your lid until you’re happy with the level of boldness (but we honestly recommend going super dark). For a bit of a peacock-inspired look, add in a bit of green, like Make Up For Ever Turquoise Shimmer. We just swept it over the blue with a brush, but you can get more inventive if you feel like shading. Then line your lids with a dark blue eyeliner, like Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer. You can smoke out the liner a bit with the sponge tip, and for a little extra goth madness, sweep the eyeshadow over the liner with an eyeliner brush to finish. Va-va-voom! Top it all off with at least two coats of black mascara to make your eyes really pop. Now that’s true blue, minus the ’80s cheese!
