BIG on Bloor Festival 2021
July 24 @ 8:00 am - August 2 @ 5:00 pmFree
BIG on Bloor Festival opens its 14th year on July 24th, 2021 with the launch of several art installations scattered throughout the Bloordale neighborhood; Bloor Street West, Dufferin to Lansdowne. Celebrating community magic, creativity, and diversity through arts and culture, while showing love to the local storefronts that make the strip so special.
Various location-based projects will be on view 24/7 until the end of August 2021. Curated by Festival Director Darren Leu, anticipate impactful murals, large-scale installations and window exhibitions by Jana Ghalayini, Daniel Hunt, Curtia Wright, Crafty Chas, Card Yard and several more.
Projects will explore the concept of “patchwork”, exploring how layers of community can come together to create, and in doing so, discover how our differences can make a communal piece so beautiful and unique. PATCHWORK asks: what similarities can strangers reveal when they work towards the same goal? By creating in parallel, new connections can emerge, despite the discord we each may have faced. As you move through the art projects of Bloordale, we invite you to explore what new connections, mosaics and medleys may emerge.
Programming continues with “BIG off Bloor”, a digital catalogue featuring concerts and art workshops by local creatives. Artists present workshops through live video streams, engaging with participants to not only educate but collaborate on the final artwork. Participants are encouraged to follow along at-home and submit their work to be included in a larger installation created by many other participants. The quilt-like piece advances community storytelling and visualizes the theme of PATCHWORK.
Made possible by the Bloordale BIA, the BIG on Bloor Festival is free and open to everyone.
