Blythwood Breaks It Down
January 29, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
$15 – $20On this unusual program, Blythwood brings an exciting array of works that “break down” the traditional quintet ensemble into duos, trios and quartets!
Anthony on bass clarinet and Kevin on bassoon go toe-to-toe on Marc Mellits’ Black (2008), Sarah and Liz present Alberto Ginastera’s exceptional neoclassic Duo for Flute and Oboe (1945), while Curtis and Anthony present the pastoral Quatre Petites Pièces pour clarinette et cor, op. 173 (1938) by Charles Koechlin. This exciting showcase also features trios and quartets found in the Habanera from Aires Tropicales (1994) by Paquito D’Rivera, John Cage’s Music for Wind Instruments (1938), and Paul Hindemith’s Kleine Kammermusik No. 1, 3rd movement (1922).
After breaking down the quintet, Blythwood reassembles to present Andrea Clearfield’s quilt-inspired Compass Kaleidoscope (2015).
