Sameer Rahim, a 16-year-old kid from Toronto, is an aspiring celebrity photographer working to make a name for himself in a very competitive industry. His goal: to photograph the world’s hottest rappers, capturing moments and making them look good.
Just him and his camera
His first exposure to photography was watching filmmaker and content creator, Casey Neistat on YouTube as an early teen. Amazed by the content Neistat was producing, Rahim begged his sister to get him his first camera, a Canon 70D, so he could explore his newfound passion for photography.
Rahim upgraded to the Contax T2 at 13, and has been shooting with it ever since. According to him, it’s the best film camera on the market to shoot with.

When remembering back to that time in his career, Rahim told BlogTO: “I didn’t know if I wanted to take portrait pictures or nature pictures, I just did it all.”
Celebrity photographer
Rahim has fortunately been able to photograph several “celebrities” throughout the years. His first opportunity was during a chance encounter with Canadian rapper and musician, Roy Woods at a basketball game held at Square One in Mississauga.
It’s on vacation in Los Angeles where Rahim later also snapped photos of rappers Lil Yachty and Wasteey Monroe. He admits that it’s extremely common to run into celebrities on the streets of L.A. but that it is still important to ask permission before taking a photo.
It’s unclear whether Rahim has a process for finding celebrities to capture, or whether it is purely a right place, right time situation. Either way, there’s something to be said for getting a decent photo on the fly like that.

Rahim also told blogTO that his photography career would be complete if/when he gets to shoot Drake. It remains to be seen whether this youngster will continue into a full-time career in photography, but we look forward to seeing who he is going to run into next.
